中式英文：

The school shooting has given new impetus for a gun control.

（校園槍擊事件為槍枝管制議題打了一劑強心針。）

改錯研析：

1. The school shooting has given new impetus to gun control.

2. The school shooting became a new impetus for gun control.

(1) impetus 做為「不可數名詞」時，是「動能」或「動力」的意思 (= momentum)，而「動詞片語」give impetus to（催生/促成）屬固定用法，介係詞是 to 不是 for。

(2) impetus 做為「可數名詞」（恆為單數型態），是「刺激」之意（= stimulus），其後「介係詞」才接 for，如以下 Merriam-Webster 例句：

The tragic accident became an impetus for changing the safety regulations.

（那場悲慘的車禍成了道路交通安全規則修訂的推手。）

(3) 就中文意思而言，無論 momentum 或 stimulus，解釋起來都差不多，但英文用法則牽涉到「可數/不可數名詞」和「介係詞」的概念，對學英文大而化之的同學來說，很容易犯錯，而且會一錯再錯，這也是「中式英文」無所不在的主因。

(4) gun control 為「不可數名詞片語」，因此之前不能有「不定冠詞」a。
