老美不但表情豐富，肢體語言也多，所以有時候只要眨眨眼（Blink）或聳聳肩（Shrug），就能勝過千言萬語。「搖手指」就是常見的否定性肢體語言：
I saw John wagging his finger at me when I tried to park in CEO's parking space.
就在我試著把車停到執行長的停車位時，看到約翰搖著手指示意我不行這麼做。
" Wag " 是左右兩邊搖晃的意思，狗搖尾巴就是用這個字，老美則是用「尾巴搖狗」來表示「本末倒置」的意思：
