Elders are more keeping in shape than young people.
改錯研析:
Elderly people are less in shape than young people.
Elderly people are in worse shape than young people.
(1) elder 當「形容詞」時,是指「(家中子女)排行較高」,如 elder brother(長兄)或 elder daughter(大女兒)。當「名詞」是指「長輩」、「耆老」或「大老」,如「黨內大老」就可以講 the party elders。原句是指「年長的人」,應該是 elderly people 或 the elderly。
(2) 年長者的身體狀況當然比年輕人差,因此要用 be less in shape 或 be in worse shape 來表示。
(3) keep in shape 是指「保持身材」或「維持健康」,但句意中並無「保持/維持」(keep)之意,而是單純指「身體/健康狀況」。
