中式英文：

The magazine blew the lid on the corruption scandal.

改錯研析：

1. The magazine blew the lid off the corruption scandal.

2. The magazine took the lid off the corruption scandal.

3. The magazine lifted the lid on the corruption scandal.

(1) 英文沒有 blow the lid on 的用法，應該是 blow the lid off 的誤植。

(2) blow the lid off 是「慣用語」(idiom)，而「慣用語」的形成通常沒有什麼特別道理，必須視為一個整體，不能逐字拆開個別翻譯成中文來理解。很多同學英語學習過程中並未建立此一觀念，只要見到英文字，就機械式做逐字中譯，也不管是不是「慣用語」，英文學到最後一塌糊塗是必然結果。 

(3) blow the lid off something 是指「揭發某件不可告人之事」，也可以表示成 take the lid off something，不能發揮想像力或依個人喜好隨意更改「動詞」(blow/take) 和「介係詞」(off)。 

(4) 如果要用「介係詞」on，可採用 lift the lid on something，其反義用法為 keep/put a/the lid on something，也就是「不讓事件爆發或失控」的意思，如以下 Cambridge 例句：

The administration has intervened to keep a lid on inflation.

（政府已介入抑制通膨。）
