As we near the end of the guide, lets briefly discuss Currency Items in Path of Exile 2. In the original game, there was no traditional currency like Gold. Instead, currency revolved around crafting items, which meant that the currency itself was used for equipment crafting.

The value of currency items varied based on their effectiveness in crafting. Items with stronger crafting effects held greater value compared to other currency items.

However, in Path of Exile 2, a major change for existing players is the introduction of Gold. Heres a quick overview of how Gold currently functions:

Gold: 

Gold will drop as you progress through the game and will be automatically collected within a small range around your character. You can use Gold at NPC vendors to purchase items or engage in gambling. It is important to note that Gold cannot be traded or earned outside of gameplay.

There are also discussions about potentially using Gold as a fee for the trading system. In Path of Exile 1, players had to manually search for items on the trade website, message the seller, form a party, and then trade in-game. This system has led to some inefficiencies in trading. Although seen as a necessary measure to maintain the games economy, Grinding Gear Games is exploring the possibility of implementing instant buy features and improving quality of life features for trading in Path of Exile 2. These features would likely be powered by Gold, allowing buyers to interact with the trade system and purchase items from other players using currency.

Aside from Gold, there are other PoE 2 currency items available:

1. Chaos Orb: This currency item removes one random modifier from an item and replaces it with a new random modifier. Chaos orbs are commonly used in trades, and any item worth selling is usually listed for at least one Chaos Orb.

2. Divine Orbs (likely to be added in PoE 2): Divine Orbs randomize the values of the random modifiers on an item. In Path of Exile 1, Divine Orbs were the standard currency for trading expensive items due to their rarity. It is possible that Path of Exile 2 will introduce a different currency item to fulfill the role of Divine Orbs.

Note: Orb of Fusing, Orb of Alteration, and Orb of Scouring have been removed from Path of Exile 2.
