Leadership is not management. Management is the second creation. Management is a bottom line focus: How can I best accomplish certain things? Leadership deals with the top line: What are the things I want to accomplish? In the words of both Peter Drucker and Warren Bennis, '"Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things." Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; Leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall.

領導不同於管理。領導與管理的差異就彷彿思想與行為。管理是有效地把事情做好，領導則是確定所作的事是否正確；管理是在成功的階梯上努力往上爬，領導則指出爬的階梯是否靠在正確的牆上。
