它必須根入在地球上。事實上，唯有當某種東西根入在地球上，它才能夠成長到天空。一棵樹如果要聳入天空，要跟風兒低語，要跟陽光共舞，要跟星星對話，它必須先深入泥土，它必須將它的根散入到最深層的泥土。

It has to be rooted in the earth -- in fact only when something is rooted in the earth can it grow unto the sky. A tree, to go high in the sky, to whisper with the winds, to dance with the sun, to have a dialogue with the stars, needs first to go deep down into the earth, has to spread its roots to the deepest layers of the earth.

　　你不會對樹木說：「你是矛盾的，你想要聳入天空，為什麼還要將你的根散入地下？這是一個矛盾。」是的，就邏輯而言，它是一個矛盾，但生命並不是邏輯。樹木將會嘲笑你的邏輯，而且會說你很笨，因為如果沒有根入地下，就沒有空中的枝葉，樹木只能夠按照同樣的比例來生長，它的根能夠進人多深，它的枝葉就能夠長多高、深度帶來高度--依同樣的比例。它永遠都是平衡的。

You don't say to a tree, "You are contradictory: you want to rise high in the sky, then why are you spreading your roots into the earth? This is a contradiction." Yes, it is a contradiction as far as logic is concerned. But life is not logic. The tree will laugh at your logic and will call you foolish -- because if there are no roots deep in the earth, there will be no branches in the sky. The tree can move only proportionately, in the same proportion -- as it goes deep, it goes high. Depth brings height, in the same proportion. It is always balanced.
