SCAM ALERT
U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Clerk of Court’s Office, U.S. Marshals,
FBI Urge Public to Report Phone Scams
Chicago, Ill. - The Clerk of Court’s Office for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of
Illinois, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the FBI are alerting the public of several imposter
scams targeting residents of the Northern District of Illinois involving individuals claiming to be officers of the court, U.S. Marshals, or other law enforcement officials. During these calls, scammers attempt to collect a fine in lieu of arrest for failing to report for jury duty or other offenses. They then tell victims they can avoid arrest by purchasing a prepaid debit card such as a Green Dot card or gift card and read the card number over the phone to satisfy the fine.
Residents of the Northern District of Illinois receiving these scam calls should report the calls to the FBI Chicago Field Office and file a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, which has the ability to detect patterns of fraud from the information collected and share that data with law enforcement.

Scammers use many tactics to sound credible. They sometimes provide information like badge numbers; names of actual law enforcement officials, federal judges or court officials; and courthouse addresses. They may also spoof their phone numbers to appear on caller ID as if they are calling from the court or a government agency.
If you believe you were a victim of such a scam, you are encouraged to report the incident to the FBI’s Chicago Field Office and to the FTC

Things to remember:
 The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois will never contact anyone
by phone about a fine or warrant.
 The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois will never seek
credit/debit card/gift card numbers, wire transfers, or bank routing numbers over
the phone.
 Do not divulge personal or financial information to unknown callers.
 Report scam phone calls to the FBI Chicago Field Office at (312) 421-6700 and to the FTC.
 You can remain anonymous when you report.
 Authenticate the call by calling the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of
IIlinois Clerk’s Office at (312) 435-5670 and verify the court order given by the caller.

Your Complaint Has Been Accepted
Thank you for filing your complaint with the National Do Not Call Registry.

Do not call complaints will be entered into a secure online database available to civil and criminal law enforcement agencies. While the FTC does not resolve individual consumer problems, your complaint will help the agency investigate the company, and could lead to law enforcement action.

clicked [My number is on the Registry, so why am I still getting illegal calls?]
Since 2009, the FTC has seen a significant increase in the number of illegal sales calls - particularly robocalls. The reason is technology. Internet powered phone systems make it cheap and easy for scammers to make illegal calls from anywhere in the world, and to display fake caller ID information, which helps them hide from law enforcement.

clicked [What is the FTC doing to stop these calls?]
To date, the FTC has sued hundreds of companies and individuals who were responsible for placing unwanted calls, and has obtained over a billion dollars in judgments against violators. In addition, the FTC is leading several initiatives to develop a technology-based solution. The FTC has sponsored a series of robocall contests challenging the tech savvy public to design tools that block robocalls and help investigators track down and stop robocallers. The FTC also is encouraging industry efforts to combat caller ID spoofing.

clicked [I gave you the phone number of the company who called me illegally. Why isnt the FTC doing something?]
Current technology makes it easy for scammers to fake or "spoof" caller ID information, so the number you reported in your complaint probably isnt real. Without more information, its difficult for the FTC and other law enforcement agencies to identify the actual caller. Nonetheless, the FTC analyzes complaint data and trends to identify illegal callers based on calling patterns. The agency also is pursuing a variety of technology-based solutions to combat illegal calls and practices.

clicked [Will I hear back from the FTC regarding my complaint?] the answear is NO because too many. as:
Due to the volume of complaints, the FTC cannot respond directly to every complaint. The FTC and other law enforcement agencies analyze complaints to spot trends and to identify and take action against the people responsible for these illegal calls.

--my case was accepted, that is good news hoping can really blockade the fraud calling. (from my heart i have no confidence at all. because we already registered DOnotCall many years ago). Especially if the fraud phone number not came from usa registered company which FTC can sue and get big amount penalty (i dont think people reported can share a bit soup, haaaa).

when i tried to pick up the fraud phone call my cell phone was locked until finally succeeded by changing language (i suspect maybe that is the reason, same as after we installed Kaspersky anti-virus app in 2014? tons attacked our notebooks. but only worked for few min. to get the calling phone number but then it is locked again. i told spouse we need hardware reset router or would be worse and worst because his cell phone didnt have same sympton right now. before we go to old house must shut down router or who knows what would happen to his cell phone. After return home if still have energy then we perform hardware reset router or next available day (ususally we need 3 days to recovery from hard working in old house yard work).

ps 5/15/2025 i decide to uninstall Tamu app to verify whether it would be better. --it didnt change still same smpton that didnt connect to internet at all. 5/16/2025 found our 2 iphones both cant send/recive the other one text messages. took 1-2 hrs finally solved the 2 problems. what did i do? 1. iphone 6 must updated so i can report the 2 fraud phone calls as junk & deleted 2. received i-pass several fraud messages with different email address. so verified i-pass website which declared found my account. later declared already closed. so report junk & deleted 3. restart 2 cell phones then back to normal.
