Hello friends.
Welcome to Let’s Talk in English.
My name is Esther.
And my name is Garrett.
Today we have an activity lesson.
And the name of our lesson is.
Fun at a Self Photo Studio.
Self photo studio.
You know this makes me think of the word selfie.
Right, a selfie is when you take a picture by yourself with your phone or maybe something else, right?
You don’t have someone else take a picture of you.
Well, you don’t need anyone else if you go to a self photo studio.
But you can take nicer photos than you would if you were just taking a selfie outside.
That’s because at these studios they have many things that you can wear and special lights sometimes that make you look nice.
Right.
Today in our lesson we’ll talk all about what you can do at one of these studios.
Are you tired of regular selfies?
Try a self photo studio.
The lights and camera are ready for you.
At the studio you can fix your hair.
There are clothes and props.
You can use those and take fun photos.
Bring your friends with you.
Then you can take photos together.
Pose in silly ways and have fun.
You can take the photos home and remember your good time.
Thanks Esther.
Well, these do sound like a fun place.
If you’re looking for some fun photos.
Now I have seen these around town.
So it will be fun to talk about them today.
Alright, and today we also need to find the answer to our Flangth Question.
Our question is: What is ready for you at a self photo studio?
What is ready for you at a self photo studio, friends?
What do they have there that’s all ready for you to use?
You don’t need to bring it yourself.
Find the answer in our lesson today.
Now let’s go to Sonia who will teach us our keywords.
We can take some fun selfies.
At a self-photo studio the light and camera are ready.
Susie
So we just pose and take pictures?
We can put on silly hats and glasses.
Susie
We can take some photos and have a good time.
Let’s go in this self photo studio.
We can take some fun selfies.
We can take selfies with our phones.
What’s special about a self photo studio?
At a self photo studio the lights and camera are ready.
So we just pose and take pictures.
That’s right.
Just smile for the camera.
Okay.
We can try it, I guess.
Today Julie and Susie are talking about self photo studios or selfie studios.
Alright, a selfie studio where you can take a photo of yourself.
And you don’t need any friends with you.
But of course bring some friends and take a photo together.
It’s more fun that way too.
It sure is.
And Julie tells Susie.
We can take some phone selfies.
Again, a selfie is a picture that you take by yourself.
Sometimes people will put their cell phones on a stick and they will take the picture like that.
We call this a selfie stick.
Alright.
It makes taking those selfies a little easier.
As you can hold your phone a little further away from yourself.
There’s more distance.
Well, Susie says: We can take selfies with our phones, right?
And she asked Julie: What’s special about a self photo studio?
I think Susie wants to know what can you do there that you can’t do when you take a selfie by yourself.
Let’s go to Sonia for more about that sentence.
Julie邀Susie
Susie
What’s special about a self-photo studio?
What’s special about the new phone?
What’s different about my room?
What’s important about exercise?
Thanks Sonia.
Friends, did you find the answer to our Find It Question?
Our question was: What is ready for you at a self photo studio?
The lights and camera are ready.
Those things are already ready for you.
Yes.
Let’s talk about those things together.
Lights are, of course, what help you to see.
But when you’re taking a nice picture, you want a lot of light.
So you can see the things in the picture clearly, right?
And often at photo studios, they have special lights for taking photos.
And the machine that you use to take a picture is called a camera.
So at these self photo studios, you are not using your cell phone.
There is a camera there that will take a picture for you.
All right.
I’m sure you could pull your phone out if you wanted pictures on your phone right away.
But it sounds like they do have a camera for you.
Now we can also use that word camera to talk about the part of our phone that takes pictures.
Right.
Small phones have cameras in them today.
Indeed.
Well, Susie continues and says: So we just pose and take pictures?
She’s trying to understand what you do when you go to one of these selfie studios.
Now Esther, we should talk about that word pose.
Sure.
And maybe we can show people what some poses are.
When you pose, it means you’re moving your body or face in a special way.
So that someone can take a picture of you, right?
Usually, when you’re taking a picture, you’re trying to pose in a way that looks nice in the picture.
You might move your head and other parts of your body for it.
Right.
And the action you do is called pose.
And what you actually do, those are called different poses as well.
Right.
So Julie agrees that is what you do at the studio.
And of course, don’t forget to smile for the camera.
When you smile, you make a happy face.
Right.
The corners of your mouth move up.
And it makes people look nice.
Right.
Sometimes when you’re trying to look cool in a picture, you might not smile and it can still look good.
But for a happy photo, remember to smile.
So Julie and Susie are going to do that.
They’re going to pose and smile for the camera.
They are going to try out this studio.
And friends, we are going to take a quick break.
Don’t go away though.
We’ll be right back.
Let’s Talk in English.
Let’s Talk in English ten minutes every day.
Every day, that’s the way.
Welcome back, friends.
Friends, if you are going to do something with someone else, you can use this sentence pattern: We can.
And in our magazine, we gave you a few examples.
We wrote: We can read books and magazines.
You might say: We can drink iced tea and lemonade.
What are some other examples that you can think of, friends?
Try to practice that yourself as we go and continue our lesson.
Self photo studios have lots of fun props too.
We can put on silly hats and glasses.
That would be more fun.
I know.
You can also fix your hair.
They have brushes and other tools.
No thanks, but you can do that.
Come on.
We can take some photos and have a good time.
Okay.
You lead the way.
Julie tells us that self photo studios have lots of fun props.
Right.
So why would you go to a self photo studio and not just take a picture at home?
But we already learned they prepare cameras for you and nicer lights than you might have at home.
But one other reason is these props.
Right.
Some of them are very fun.
There might be sunglasses or silly hats or different clothes that you can wear.
Now we heard the word silly to talk about a hat.
Yes.
So we heard: You can put on silly hats and glasses.
That word silly is kind of like the word funny.
Well, these hats and glasses are kinds of props.
Props are things you use when, well, you’re filming a movie, a TV show, or taking a picture.
Right.
It could be something that you wear.
Or it could be special furniture or something that people eat.
Well, Susie says that having props would be more fun.
Right.
It’s fun to have silly props when you’re taking a picture.
Julie agrees.
And she says: You can also fix your hair.
Here the word fix means to arrange.
There’s nothing wrong with your hair.
It’s not a machine that is broken.
Sonia, can you help us more of this word?
You can also fix your hair.
Nina took a long time to fix her hair.
Fix
Can you call someone to fix the microwave?
My mom is fixing dinner now.
Thank you Sonia.
Yes.
Fix is a word we can use in many ways.
If you are going to make a meal, you can say I need to fix breakfast or I need to fix lunch.
I’ll give you one more kind of silly or interesting way to use this.
This is a little more complicated.
When you’re making a big fancy meal and you have a lot of side dishes that go with something like little treats that go with your big chicken, you call all of those extra things the fixings.
Yes.
Fixings are things like those side dishes.
Now here you can fix your hair with brushes and other tools.
A brush is something you use to comb your hair.
Right.
Normally how do you get ready in the morning?
Friends, what do you do to your hair?
Do you put anything in it?
Many of us don’t do much at all for our daily lives.
But if you’re taking fancy photos, there’s a lot you can do to make your hair look nice.
Right.
There’s a lot you can do to fix your hair.
Well, Susie doesn’t need brushes or other tools to fix her hair.
But she tells Julie that Julie can do it.
Right.
So they are excited to go to the selfie studio.
There are so many possibilities from fixing their hair to putting on silly props and having some fun photos.
Julie says come on.
Right.
She says we can take some photos and have a good time.
Yes.
At a self photo studio what you’re doing is you are taking photos or pictures.
Yeah.
The word photo and the word picture mean the same thing.
We often think of a physical photo or picture here.
Something that you print out.
But you might just be looking at your photos on a computer or your phone.
Right.
While Susie is excited as she tells Julie, you lead the way.
This means you show me what to do.
You lead the way is today’s calendar phrase.

You lead the way.
You lead the way.
Yay.
Let’s go to the photo studio.

You lead the way.

Hi.
I’m Detective Carter.
I have a problem.
I have some items and I need to find one that is different.
Can you help me find the odd one out?
I have four words.
Three are the same.
One is odd.
It is different from the other three.
Can you find the odd one?
Our first set is selfie, silly, camera, and photo.
This is about taking pictures.
But one does not need to be about pictures.
Which one?
The answer is silly.
Selfie, camera, and photo are about taking pictures.
But you can be silly anytime.
Want to try another set?
Here are silly, scary, pose, and surprised.
Which word is not a describing word?
The answer is pose.
Silly, scary, and surprised are adjectives.
They tell you more about someone’s feelings.
Pose is a verb.
It’s an action.
It’s different.
For pictures, you might pose like you are in a silly, scary, or surprised way.
Good work.
You helped me find the odd one out.
See you next time friends.
Friends, have you ever been to a self photo studio?
These are popular all around the world.
Right.
Especially in the last few years.
I don’t know that I have.
I’ve only been in those little boxes where you go in to take a passport photo.
And I’ve been to one that takes stickers for you.
But I’ve never been to these newer ones.
Sure.
Well friends, if you like taking photos, you want to look nice or silly, this could be a great choice.
Grab some friends and take some fun photos.
Right.
Remember to look at the props that they have.
And put on something that you might not put on or have at home.
Right.
Use some of those English words that you learned in today’s lesson.
And of course, don’t forget to join us again tomorrow right here on Let’s Talk in English.
Goodbye.
