 50年代末，Athol Guy (vocals, bass; b. Jan. 5, 1940, Victoria, Australia)、Keith Potger (vocals, 12-string guitar; b. Mar. 2, 1941, Colombo, Sri Lanka⋯⋯)及Bruce Woodley (vocals, guitar; b. July 25, 1942, Melbourne, Australia)三個玩團的澳洲墨爾本高中生與主唱歌手Ken Ray共組了一個以演唱doo wop曲風的團體the Escorts。1963年當民謠風潮襲捲樂壇之時開始改弦易轍地轉向，玩起1959年以前從英美開始並影響著澳洲樂壇的歌曲，自此The Escorts也漸衍而成The Seekers。之後，他們找來了當時與Guy白天正職的廣告公司一起工作Judith Durham (b. July 3, 1943, Melbourne)擔綱新任主唱。在知名歌手Dusty Springfield的哥哥Tom Springfield帶領下，迅速地在全球樂壇綻露頭角，和諧的吉他合弦與主唱Judith清澈美麗歌聲，除了自己創作的作品外，還重新詮釋屬於他們自己的Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan、Tom Paxton、Joan Baez、Simon & Garfunkel、the Beatles及the Mamas & the Papas。
