For many first-time Bybit users, the problem is not registration. The problem is opening the trading page and suddenly not knowing what to do next.
Common questions are:
- How to buy BTC on Bybit?
- What is the difference between Spot and Futures?
- How do Market and Limit orders work?
- What are Long and Short?
This guide starts directly from the actual trading process without too much theory.
If this is your first time using Bybit, follow the steps below to understand the entire trading process step by step.
1. What can you trade on Bybit?
For most beginners, start by understanding two main directions:
Spot
Spot means directly buying assets. Examples: BTC, ETH, SOL. Common pairs: BTCUSDT, ETHUSDT, SOLUSDT. Buying BTCUSDT Spot simply means using USDT to buy BTC.
Futures
Futures is not simply buying coins, but trading price direction. You can Long or Short. But Futures also involves leverage, margin, liquidation, funding rate, stop loss, and take profit. So if you have no trading experience, get familiar with Spot first, then study Futures.
2. What is BTCUSDT?
Beginners seeing BTCUSDT for the first time may find it complicated. Actually, it is very simple.
BTC is the asset you are trading. USDT is the asset used for pricing. BTCUSDT can be understood as how much USDT 1 BTC is worth now.
Similarly: ETHUSDT = ETH against USDT; SOLUSDT = SOL against USDT. If you are just starting to learn trading, just understand BTCUSDT first.
3. Before your first trade, check what the price is doing
Do not click buy immediately after opening the trading page. Check three things first:
1|Direction
Is the price going up, going down, or moving sideways?
2|Position
Is the price just breaking out, pulling back, in the middle of a range, or already pumped a lot?
3|Volatility
Is the market relatively stable, normally volatile, or suddenly pumping/dumping fast?
Especially when the market pumps suddenly, do not chase just because you are afraid of missing out.
4. How to buy BTC on Bybit?
Assume you already have USDT and want to buy BTC for the first time. First find BTCUSDT Spot. Then decide how much USDT you plan to use, for example 50, 100, or 200 USDT. Next, choose Market or Limit.
5. What is Market Order?
Market Order means executing the trade as soon as possible at the current market price. If you think the current BTC price is acceptable and want to buy now, you can choose Market.
Pros: Simple operation, fast execution, easy for beginners to understand. But note: if the market is volatile, the actual fill price may differ from the price you just saw.
6. What is Limit Order?
Limit Order means setting the price you want to buy or sell. For example, BTC is currently at 68,000 USDT, but you only want to buy at 67,000. You can set the Limit price to 67,000. If the market returns to this price, the order may be filled. If the price never reaches it, the order may not be filled.
7. How to choose between Market and Limit?
Simply remember: Want to trade now → Market; Want to wait for your price → Limit. Both are very common. What really matters is knowing why you are trading at this price before placing the order. Do not click just because the price moves.
8. What to do after buying Spot?
Many beginners are best at buying, but worst at selling. After buying BTC, do not just look at +10, +20, -10, +30. Think ahead: Where to take profit? Where to re-evaluate if it drops? How long do I plan to hold? A trade is only complete with an exit plan.
9. Can I buy Spot in installments?
Yes. For example, you prepared 300 USDT to buy BTC. You do not have to buy all at once. You can split it into 100, 100, 100. Whether to split depends on your strategy. The key is not to keep buying the dip blindly, but every add-on should have pre-set conditions.
10. How to trade Bybit Futures?
If you are familiar with the basic buying and selling process, start looking at Futures. Futures trading mainly requires understanding Long and Short first.
11. What is Long?
Long means you expect the price to rise. For example: BTC Entry 67,000, you expect it to rise to 69,000. If the price goes up, Long may generate profit. If the price goes down, it may generate loss.
12. What is Short?
Short means you expect the price to fall. For example: BTC Entry 69,000, you think it will drop to 67,000. If the price drops, Short may generate profit. If the price continues to rise, it may generate loss.
13. Rising a lot does not automatically mean Short
This is a common beginner mistake. Seeing BTC rise a lot and thinking "it should drop" then shorting directly. Similarly, do not go Long just because something dropped a lot. Trading direction should come from market structure, price position, your setup, and risk reasonability. Not simply because it rose or fell too much.
14. Leverage is not the most important thing in Futures
Many first look at 5x, 10x, 20x, 50x. The reasonable order: Entry first → Stop Loss → Position size → Leverage last. Not choosing 50x first then thinking how to trade.
15. What is Stop Loss?
Stop Loss means setting in advance: if price reaches here, the trade ends. Its main function is to limit single-trade risk, not predict the market.
16. What is Take Profit?
Take Profit means setting in advance where to exit when in profit. For example, close part at first target, more at second target, or all at target. This avoids changing your mind after profiting.
17. Write these 4 numbers before opening a Futures position
- Entry: entry price
- Stop Loss: stop loss price
- Take Profit: take profit price
- Position Size: position size
If none are clear, do not rush to open.
18. How to understand Isolated and Cross?
Isolated Margin: separately managing margin risk of a single position.
Cross Margin: more available margin jointly supports positions.
Risk structures differ. Do not switch casually without understanding.
19. What is Liquidation?
Using margin and leverage, if loss reaches a certain level, the position faces Liquidation (forced close). Do not treat liquidation price as normal stop loss. Set Stop Loss early to manage risk.
