這起重大車禍産生在9日深夜11點14分，20歲的楊姓須眉開白色轎車載著一名年約18歲的女子，沿著市道178線興農路西往東，行經善化烏橋中路路口時，突然攔腰撞上一輛灰黑色休旅車，致使灰黑色休旅車翻覆路口，車體改變變形，白色馬自達休旅車則撞上中心分隔島，安全氣囊爆開，連交通號誌也遭撞擊拔起。
