讓我想起

Emily Dickenson 448 "I died for beauty-but was scarce"

I died for beauty — but was scarce
Adjusted in the Tomb
When One who died for Truth, was lain
In an adjoining Room —  

He questioned softly “Why I failed?”
"For Beauty," I replied —
"And I — for Truth — Themselves are One —
We Brethren, are," He said —

And so, as Kinsmen, met a Night —
We talked between the Rooms —
Until the Moss had reached our lips —
And covered up — Our names —

由第一個Stanza，Emily Dickenson使用了「adjoining room」，可以知道True和beauty，為一體兩面。如同John Keats說的美與真為我們已知且需知的事。

但Emily Dickenson 卻巧妙地使用我們所認為的美與真以及我們在世時所汲汲追尋的真理，終將被時間所沖淡，再崇高的理想也會被給死亡!! 這首詩雖隱隱道出我們努力追求美與真的終點不過是人中將一死，那又有何用? 但反過來說，汲汲追求的真理卻將流芳百世吧!!!亦是有趣的觀點~~~
