　　在1630年代中期的荷蘭，人們為鬱金香（tulip）而瘋狂，鬱金香的價格被炒作，其中被視為高級品種的，甚至比一棟房子還貴，從植物愛好者到一般民眾，無不投身於這股熱潮中。在1637年，鬱金香市場崩盤，相關的官司不斷，這段鬱金香熱潮也就此結束。在英文裡，這段熱潮被稱為 tulipomania（-mania 字尾指「狂熱」）。

　　有一本書關於這段 tulipomania 的歷史的書——《鬱金香熱》（Tulipomania: The Story of the World's Most Coveted Flower and the Extraordinary Passions It Aroused），該書介紹了鬱金香傳播到歐洲一直到鬱金香市場在荷蘭崩盤等的事。

　　tulipomania 也可指一般的「對鬱金香的狂熱」，而tulipomaniac （-maniac 指「狂熱者」）。-mania 字尾的字可和昨天的 xeno- 字首結合成 xenomania，指「對外國（來）人、事、物的狂熱」。
