Statement

I have been exploring the gender politics in recent years with focus on women's sexuality and physical independence and their autonomy. I have also tried to examine the dominant relationship between the sexes.

In a piece of my work in 2006, I used the makeup incarnation of a "Madam Taiwan", who carried a banner on her back with the inscription that reads: obey  father before marriage; obey son after husband’s decease, to describe a woman's role. It reflects her historical status and her lack of awareness of this submissive situation.

In the City of Hsinchu, science and technology have brought prosperity and progress to it. The Hsinchu Science Park has become a sightseeing spot for mainland tourists. I photoed my piece "Miss Hsinchu" in the Dean’s office to reflect the double standard and virgin complex. Unexpectedly, a few days after I took this self-portraiture, a press reported * that the Science Park’s "germ free women" are safer for dating, and that was widely believed by the Science Park’s new techies, --- that these “germ free” sex trade workers are "cleaner". Because of this myth and the seduction of these “clean” women, many tech men have been in contact with them and now the men are worried and lost. Is this article a coincidence to my work? Or does it verify the situation that my art was trying to state that even among the highly educated technology men in a leading technology park, the mind set remains in deep-rooted virgin complex of feudal time?

          In the "Wowoman & Yesman" series I attempt to explore gender and age, class, nation, and other cultural differences, to restructure the collective soul of women: Is a woman’s body her own or is it shaped by social forces? In addition to consciously present the phenomenon of the social structure between men and women, I also seek women’s self-development and breakthrough to ensure that they own their bodies - not to be dominated because of their sex. At the same time, I hope women may transform their bodies through meditation sustenance into male body for an alternative mythical way of experiencing pleasure, awake a number of sensory organs and liberate girls and women from the fate of oppression and I also hope to provide a clue to interpret women’s overall physical and psychological feelings.
