1. It is an honor to lead you touring the beautiful scenery in Beitou.

這是我的榮幸，能夠引導你們參觀北投美麗的風景。

 

2. Today, we will pay a visit to the following scenic spots.

(1) Beitou Park entrance (2) The first Fountain (3) A Stone Arch Bridge & Taiwan Pond (4) The second fountain & Duck Pool(5) Taipei Public Library, Beitou Branch (6)An Illustration of the Five Creek Falls along Beitou Creek (7) The First Creek Fall (8) Lognaitang (9) Tiangouan (10) Beitou Hot Spring Museum.

今天我們將會參觀以下的景點。

3.   As we understand, Beitou was the hometown of the witches. Why do we say so?

Because Ketagalan people, one of Taiwanese aborigines living around Taipei area in ancient times, called the place Beitou, which means “witch” in the language of Ketagalan people.

如同我們所了解的，北投曾是女巫的家鄉。我們為何這樣說呢？因為古時候住在台北附近地區的一支台灣原住民人們稱這地方Beitou，這在凱達格蘭人的語言中意味著女巫。

 

4.   Now, we stand in front of the entrance of Beitou Park. It was built in 1913, the early Taiso period under Japanese occupation.

現在，我們站在北投公園入口處。它建於1913年，正處於日本大正時代早期。

 

5.   When entering Beitou Park, we can see that the pool spouts water at intervals.

當進入北投公園後，我們首先可看到一座間歇性噴水池。

 

6.   Inside Beitou Park, there is a Duck Pool in front of Taipei Library, Beitou Branch. It is the same as one in Taipei Guest House.

在北投公園內，位於北投圖書館前，有一座鴨池；它跟台北賓館前的水池是一樣的型式。

 

7.   Even now, the Duck Pool keeps the same pattern as used to be.

即使目前，這座鴨池的型式也保持的跟以前一樣。

 

10. And then, we can see a Fountain Pool. The Fountain Pool, rebuilt in 1970, still keeps the same pattern as before.

接著，我們可看到一座泉水池，它於1970年重建，但型式仍然保持如昔。

11. Look! A stone Arch bridge! Originally, there were ten stone humpback bridges in Beitou Park. The style was original from ancient Egypt, Greece and Roma, and later transformed into Japan. It is a pity that only one stone humpback bridge is preserved now.

注意看！一座石拱橋。最初，有十座石拱橋在北投公園內。它們源自於埃及、

  希臘以及羅馬，然後轉移入日本。真可惜，目前只剩下一座石拱橋被保留。

 

12. At first, there used to have five creek falls along Beitou Creek. Now, it is hard to find out the original five creek falls. However, we still can see an illustration to figure out the original five falls along Beitou Creek.

最初，以前有五個瀧沿著北投溪。現在很難再看到原來五個瀧的全貌。

然而，我們可以藉著圖例來揣測沿著北投溪原來五個瀧的位置。

 

 

13. This is the first fall along Beitou Creek. In early years, people were allowed to sit under the falling water and to enjoy the hot spring in nature.

這是沿著北投溪的第一瀧。

在早期時，人們被允許坐在瀧的落水下，享受在大自然中浸泡溫泉。

 

14. As we know, Beitou is famous for its hot springs. A bathhouse, built during Japanese occupation, now becomes Beitou Hot Spring Museum.

如同我們所知，北投以溫泉聞名。在日本時期所建造的一所湯屋，現在已經

成為北投溫泉博物館。

 

15. It is a representative of the building with both styles：Japanese and Western. First, let’s take a look at the front side of the building to appreciate the Japanese style, such as steep tile roofs and wooden walls.

它是一棟融合兩種風格的建築物代表－日式以及西式。首先，讓我們看一下這建築物主要的立面，欣賞日式風格，例如斜式瓦片屋頂和木質牆面。

 

16.Now, we take a look at the other side of Beitou Hot spring Museum.

We also can appreciate the chimneys to realize the Western style.

  現在，我們來看北投溫泉博物館另一立面，我們也可欣賞這些煙囪來瞭解

西式風格。

 

17. When entering the Hot Spring Museum, we are actually on the second floor. The big room in front of our eyes, the major spot is a large space covered with Tatami.

At old times, people could lie or take a rest on Tatami.

當進入北投溫泉博物館，我們是處於二樓。在我們的眼前，主要的地點是一大片榻榻米的空間。在以前，人們可以在榻榻米上躺著或休息。

 

18. Today, people are not allowed to step on Tatami without taking off

their shoes.

今日，人們必須脫鞋才能踩在這片榻榻米上。

 

19. On the corner of the second floor, people could see the nearby scenery on an observation deck.

在二樓的某角落，人們能從瞭望台觀賞外面的風景。

 

20. We can realize the history and culture about Beitou in the Multi-Video room.

  我們可從多媒體視聽室中，瞭解北投的歷史及文化。

 

21. Beitou has been called as Taiwan’s Hollywood for Taiwanese films.

  At old times, many Taiwanese films picked Beitou as their settings.

北投可被稱作台灣台語片的好萊烏。在舊時代，許多台語片以北投為場景。

 

22. Now, please follow me to go downstairs through the wooden stairs from

the second floor to the first floor. Please step on the stairs lightly with

a heart of gratitude.

現在，請隨著我下樓，我們將從二樓下到一樓。讓我們懷著感恩的心，輕輕

走在這座木質樓梯的階梯上。

 

23. In the bathhouse, there are two sections. A large Roman-style pool for men and a small, shallow, mosaicked pool for women and children. However, each individual could still hear the sounds from the separated walls.

整個浴場，羅馬式大浴池為男性專用，一個小型貼有馬賽克的矮淺浴池，則

供婦女與小孩浸泡溫泉。每個人還是仍然能隔著牆聲息互通。

 

23-1. We wonder why there is such a big difference between the two pools. Because male chauvinism dominated Japan’s society, including Taiwan at that time. Originally, while building this public bathhouse, it was considered a recreation center for men.

我們很好奇為何男池和女池的大小差這麼多。因為當時男性沙文主義支配著日本社會，包括台灣。當初在建造這座公共浴池時，是以男性的休閒為考量。

 

24. Therefore, the pool for males is designed to be relatively large, and the ventilation facilities are well constructed. And the outside scenery is exquisite, too. However, the pool for females is quite special in its own way. On the roof, there were four semitransparent skylights.

所以在設計上，男池的範圍較大，而且週邊的通風設施及風景採光都較講究，不過女池也有個蠻特別的設計，就是在池子的屋頂，有四個半透明的天窗。

 

24-1. Another difference between the pools for men and women is that men could be naked in the pool. However, a bathing suit had to be worn in the pool for women at all times. This public bathhouse establishment has helped to create the recreation culture of Beitou.

另一個男女有別的待遇，男池可以裸身泡湯，女池要穿泳衣，因為這棟公共浴池的成立，才發展出北投的休閒文化。

 

25. For privacy, people also could use a personal pool to take a hot spring.

  為了私密性，人們也可以使用個人池浴間來浸泡溫泉。

 

26. A rare stone called Hokutolite containing radiating material “Ra”.

It was found in Beitou Creek (around Hell Valley) by a Japanese

named Yohochiro Okamoto. Hokutolite has a certain healing function.

 

一種被叫做北投石稀有的石頭含有放射性物質”鐳”。它是在北投溪

地熱谷附近被一位叫做岡本要八郎的日本人所發現。北投石具有某種療效。

 

27. Here we are, the Large Pool! Let me tell you that it is nine meters long and six meters wide, with the depth of 40 for teenagers to 130 centimeters for adults from one end to the other.

  我們走這邊。到了大池了。這大池是多麼令人驚歎呀！讓我告訴你們這大池是9呎長、6呎寬，以及從一邊到另一邊是40到130公分深，皆適合青少年及大人。

 

28. Traditionally, only men were permitted to take a hot spring with the gesture of standing in the large pool. Why? I suppose two main reasons.

  First for safety, for fear that anyone takes a hot spring sitting in the large pool should faint without being found out. It is very dangerous. Second for health, the best phase for taking a hot spring is less than 20 minutes.

  傳統上，只有男性被允許在大池中以站立方式浸泡溫泉。

  為甚麼呢？我個人認為有兩個理由；第一是為了安全，以免有人坐著浸泡溫泉時昏倒而沒被人發覺，那將是很危險的。第二是為了健康，浸泡溫泉時間最好不超過20分鐘。

 

29. Around the Large Pool, we can clearly see hallways were designed with

  Roman arches at that time

  圍繞著大池，我們可以清楚看見四周走道，當時是以羅馬式拱型柱所設計。

 

30. Besides, we also can see walls, around the Large Pool, were designed with the stained-glass windows, mainly with the picture of swans.

  除此之外，我們也可看到圍繞著大池的牆上，都以天鵝圖案的彩繪玻璃設計為主。

 

 

 

31. Most significantly, when the sunshine came through the stain-glass windows, the shadow of the swan was reflected onto the pool, like swan swimming with people together. Just for kidding, I would like to call the Large Pool a Swan Pool personally.

最炫目地，當陽光穿透彩繪玻璃，天鵝的影子被反射在池水上，就像和人們一起游泳似的。為了好玩，我個人稱它為『天鵝池』。

 

32. When been restructured, the walls were inserted into some kind of chemical materials through these holes to avoid the rust to inside steels and the humidity to the tiling on the walls. In this way, we hope Beitou Hot Spring Museum can be maintained for a long time.

  當此建築物重整修時，這些牆上的鑽孔被注入某種藥水，以避免內部鐵筋

生鏽和避免牆上壁磚受潮脫落。以這種方式，我們希望北投溫泉博物館能夠維持長長久久。

 

33.In the evening, please spare your time to see the light of Beitou Hot Spring. It is beautiful, too.

  在晚上，騰出你的時間來看一看北投溫泉博物館的夜間光景。

它也是很美麗。

 

34.Now we get to Taipei Library, Beitou Branch. In Taipei, it is the first library oriented with environment-friendly concepts and methods. It is  also a so-called Green Building.

   現在我們到了北投圖書館。在台北，它是第一個以友善環境觀念及方式

建造的圖書館。它也是一座所謂的綠建築。

 

35. In the west side of Beitou Public Library, there is a lotus pond shaped like the outline of Taiwan. We call it Taiwan Pond.

  在北投圖書館前，有一座外貌像似台灣的蓮花水塘，我們稱為台灣池。

 

36. Longnitang is one of the oldest bathhouses in Beitou. It has two pools which make men and women separated. Longnitang was set up by Hirata Gengo in 1896. Sometimes, people nicknamed it Three-cent bathhouse.

瀧乃湯是北投最古老的湯屋。它分別有男湯跟女湯，讓男女分開浸泡溫泉。

瀧乃湯是由平田原吾於1896設立。有時候，人們暱稱它為『三分間』。

 

37. The remaining site of Tiangouan. A monumental stone is in front of it.

  天狗庵舊址。前面有一個天狗庵紀念石碑。

 

38. Ketagalan Culture Center was set up to preserve the Taiwanese aboriginal cultures and arts. The center is a ten-story building.

   凱達格蘭文化館是為了保存台灣原住民文化及藝術而設立。它是一棟十層

樓的建築物。

 

39. Pu-Ji Temple, built in 1905, is a rare Japanese Buddhism Temple with Japanese style and complete form and, meanwhile, the first temple in Beitou.

  普濟寺建於1905年，是一座有著完全型式日式風格的稀有日式佛教寺廟，

同時也是北投第一座寺廟。

 

40. Personally, I would like to recommend a place called Citizen Meeting House to you. It is a small, cozy, attractive place for photo or painting display. Spare your time to get there, you can refresh your body and mind.

  我個人向你們推薦一個叫公民會館的地方。它雖是一處小小的、但卻是舒適且引人想去觀賞照片或繪畫展覽的處所。花些時間去那裡，可以使你身心清新。

 

41. By the way, Don’t forget the scenic spot: Beitou Station of Taipei MRT

別忘記北投捷運站這個景點。

 

42. Unlike the other MRT stations, there is a big square close to it.

Most importantly, we can see the pattern of swallows on the ground.

Swallows are the symbol of good luck to people living in Beitou.

不像其它捷運站，北投捷運站附近有大廣場，而且地面舖有燕子的圖案。燕子對住在北投的人們而言，是好運的象徵。
