為期近一個月的大聯盟季後賽昨天開打，美聯外卡驟死賽率先登場，藍鳥隊重砲英卡納西恩在延長十一局下轟出再見三分砲，成為五比二淘汰金鶯隊的致命一擊，但此役被討論最多卻是金鶯教頭蕭瓦特冰凍「終結者」布里頓，引發爭議。
布里頓本季出賽六十九場，合計六十七局只失七分（四分自責），防禦率零點五四，四十七次救援機會全部成功，奪下美聯救援王；沒想到一戰定生死的美聯外卡驟死賽，竟然從頭到尾坐板凳，賽後有些不爽。
金鶯昨天動用七名投手，牛棚六人輪番上陣，就是沒有布里頓的份；尤其老將希曼尼茲十一局下面臨一、三壘有人的危機，蕭瓦特仍未推出擅投伸卡球、本季讓八成打者滾地球出局的布里頓，最後希曼尼茲被轟出再見全壘打，金鶯成為首支在季後賽出局的球隊。
布里頓前後三次熱身未上，蕭瓦特的調度遭到不少質疑，賽後媒體「結果論」，問這位領軍金鶯六年、三次晉級季後賽的資深教頭是否後悔，老蕭說：「好吧，事情已經發生了，是會後悔。」
藍鳥去年奪下分區冠軍，季後賽首輪擊敗遊騎兵隊，美聯冠軍賽不敵皇家隊；今年季後賽捲土重來，昨天扳倒金鶯後，明天分區系列賽再度對決遊騎兵。
