4. 天婦羅(Tempura)跟天主教有所關係 http://www.books.com.tw/products/0010554118 日本人本來就會炸蔬菜和海鮮，但看到西班牙和葡萄牙人喜歡把東西裹粉再炸的料理技巧之後，他們就開始學洋人這樣做－－－然後天婦羅就出現了！Tempura這個名字其實也是拉丁文tempora! Tempora的意思是時間，當時這個字也可以指天主教徒吃齋（少吃，不能吃肉）的期間，所謂的大齋期。那在天主教徒的飲食文化裡，海鮮不算肉，所以大齋期的時候還是可以吃。當年，葡萄牙和西班牙商人吃比較多魚和蔬菜的時候就是tempora，所以日本人就有順便把這個料理技巧和名字拿來用。有趣的是，葡萄牙人還是會吃一個很接近天婦羅的東西叫做Peixinhos da horta （菜園小魚兒）所以下次吃天婦羅的時候，記得說Thanks Jesus !
