1. Movie review on "Oliver Twist" 2011/06/18 17:09
Oliver Twist is a child, in 1830 England , who born in a work house in to an unwed mother who dies in childbirth. He spent his first nine years of his life taken care by a woman whom lack of motherly affection named Mrs. Mann. Most of the orphans at a baby farm were brought up with little food and few comforts, thanks to the Poor Law that against by the juvenile offenders. Around the time of his ninth birth, he was transferred to a workhouse by a vicious parish beadle and got puts in to a work of picking oakum. The children in the workhouse received heavily work every day with very little food while the board of well-fed gentleman who administer the workhouse eating a meal fit for a mighty king. One day the desperately children cannot bear the situation anymore and want to do something different. They draw lots and make the loser ask for another portion of mule. It happened on the poor Oliver twist. “Please, Sir, I want some more” which shocked the adult and become out of rage. They cannot believe that a child dares to ask for anything. Immediately, the parish beadle, Mr. Bumble, tries to send him away. Oliver should send to a brutal chimney weeper as an apprentice, but then got rejected by a magistrate due to Oliver’s begging. Then he was sent to a undertaker named Mr. Sowerberry. Oliver has got a better treatment and because of his sorrowful countenance, he got used as a mourner of children. He has no choice of his life. Oliver still got bully by a oafish fellow apprentice named Noah. Noah always tries to trigger him into rage. That day Noah insulted Oliver’s late mother which indirectly lead to Oliver’s leaving. Oliver ran away from the city and try to find his own road. He walked for a long distance and finally arrived London , a city which he thought could change his life. Artful Dodger saw exhausted Oliver sit beside the road, asking if he would like to go with him and have a meal. This is the start of a large cheated swirl and poor Oliver got involved of it. At the time he got out of the situation, he luckily meets someone nice and leads a good life.

This movie is set in Messina , a port on the island of Sicily and is ruled by Arogon at the time the play was set. At Messina , a messenger brings the news that a Spanish prince from Arogon, named Don Pedro has returned from a successful battle with his officers, and is going to stay for a month. Leonato, the governor of Messina has a daughter and a niece, whose welcome their coming. The “noting” story then begins. Here come a longtime adversaries, Beatrice and Benedick, continue their never end argument. Secondly, a couple whom fall in love at the first sight is Hero and Claudio. Claudio soon announces to Benedict his attention to court Hero, Leonato’s only daughter. Benedict had swears that he’ll never get married. Don Pedro laughed at him that as long as he met the right person will he change his mind. A masquerade ball is planned in a celebration, Don John, the bastard is going to seize the opportunity to alienate the couple and play trick on his brother. Don John woo Hero on Don Pedro‘s behalf, which enraged Claudio. Fortunately, the misunderstanding soon got resolved and Claudio wins Hero’s marriage. Don Pedro and his fellow were bored at the prospect of waiting a week for the wedding, and then harbor a matchmaker between Beatrice and Benedict. Don Pedro give out an idea letting the couple both overhear others gossiping content. The man led by Don Pedro while Women led by Beatrice whom take the idea into practice. At the meanwhile, Don John made somebody to plot Claudio into to a lie about the virginity of Hero. To Don John, it really worked and makes the two couple almost separate at the wedding. Finally, the one who’s paid to do the things stand out for the bad deed which clears Hero and lead the marriage to a good consequence. Also, after few things happened, Beatrice and Benedict found each other is the right one whom they were waiting for and go into the marriage, too.
Don Pedro is a Spanish prince of Aragon , whose is a biblical name means stone. Benedict is a lord of Padua means ‘blessed’. Beatrice and Benedict have the similar meaning. Claudio is a count of Florence , whose name deprived from claudus, meaning "lame" or "crippled." Don John, an illegitimate son of Charles I of Spain . He had a reputation for treachery and usurpation of the throne. Hero, the only daughter of the governor of Messina , fell in love with Claudio.
At the beginning of the movie, the men came to the village to stay for a month. I thought the women would have a quarrel of jealousy for Don Pedro and fight for the position of Spanish princess. It turned out to be that Don Pedro has nobody to marry with at the end of the scene. Besides, I think Hero is a girl lack of cleverness that he fainted at the meantime when Claudio insults her. She does not even say something to clear herself. As the plot goes to the end, everybody deserve own love, own retribution, and own happiness.
