Red Carpet remains a myth, mystery, and hype. Yes! It is the most important part of the Cannes Film Festival. From someone with a celebrity crush to the most celebrated guests -- everyone wants to have the honour of walking those thick carpets.
Many from Bangladesh, and other countries too, for that matter -- claim to have walked the Red Carpet of Cannes, and it is true. The real truth behind the Cannes Red Carpet is that there are many of them and it happens every day. There is only one grand Red Carpet, which is at Grand Theatre Lumiere. It is the oldest and the largest theatre of the event. Each day, there are two/three Red Carpet events. Although it happens every day, the first and the last day is obviously the most demanding. When the celebrities arrive, the stairs of Grand Theatre Lumiere light up and music is played with only 50 pre-registered photo and videographers allowed at site.

Unlike the Oscars, Cannes has events, premiere, photo call and press conferences. And, filmmakers and crew from the most important movies are able to walk on it, especially the movies that are in the main competition. On the same carpet and theatre, invitees get to walk on too. The cast and crew of some movies which are not in the competition or in Un Certain Regard (that presents a score of films with various types of visions and styles; “original and different” works which seek international recognition) get the honour of walking the famed carpet.
Journalists with specials passes wipe their shoes on the carpet too. In fact, we've also walked on the famous Red Carpet and climbed the stairs. There is a catch though; anyone near the vicinity of the Grand Theatre Lumiere must be wearing a tuxedo. Female crew, photo and videographers must wear black dress. Grand Theatre Lumiere is a concrete celebrity itself.
There are other Red Carpets too. Makers of short films get a smaller Red Carpet treatment. Some films are screened at smaller theatres, like sale Debussy has a huge theatre with almost similar Red Carpet like the one at Grand Theatre Lumiere.
