杜特蒂堅決認為，他並未違反菲律賓的法律，而且上述指控「很愚蠢」。他接著說，「希特勒屠殺了300萬名猶太人…這裡（指菲律賓）有300萬個吸毒者，我很樂意屠殺他們」。然而歷史學家指出，死於納粹迫害的猶太人多達600萬。
杜特蒂所言立刻招來反彈。國際猶太人權組織「西蒙·維森塔爾中心」（Simon Wiesenthal Center）的古柏說，杜特蒂的話「粗暴可恥」，「他欠（納粹大屠殺）受害者一個道歉」。

總部位在美國、對抗反猶太主義及言論的非政府組織「反誹謗聯盟」表示，「將吸毒者與納粹大屠殺受害者相比較，既不適當也很失禮。為何一國領袖會將大魔頭當作模範，更令人疑惑」。
