Kingdom Yue’s emperor Gou Jian destroyed kingdom Wu. Attributed to two important hero, called Fan Li, and Wen Zhong.

     When kingdom Yue losing the fight to kingdom Wu, Yue’s minister Fan Li advised his emperor Gou Jian to surrender, Waiting in the wings. Wu’s emperor fascination with sex, Gradual weakening of national power, while kingdom Yue make every effort increase national power, and finally wiped out kingdom Wu.

     After the victory, Fan Li left without saying goodbye, led his families hidden in other place, living a normal life.

     He also wrote a letter to Wen Zhong, advised him to leave the palace quickly, the content of the letter is this: "... when flying birds been exhausted grasp, the strong bow would be storage; when jumping rabbit been hunted to death, and hunting dog will be cook”

    This means that: Both of us know that Emperor Gou Jian only can work together during trouble time but not co-pleasure after success, when we are fighting with kingdom Wu, he really respected us. But when we destroyed kingdom Wu, we do not retire quickly, may got horrible disaster!

     Wen Zhong was awakened after he read the letter, his pretext of sickness no longer managing political affairs. Unfortunately, emperor Gou Jian Falsely accused Wen Zhong Attempt of rebellion; given a sword, order his suicide.

     Since then, "兔死狗烹rabbit dead dog cook", "鳥盡弓藏bird exhausted bow storage" became famous idiom sentences, describe some people only can work together in  trouble time but not co-pleasure after success, killing or abandoned those who help maximum, most people refers to rulers killing hero. Also to be interpreted as something is discarded when it is useless.
