9. Good reader's habits.
(1) Look it up!
Try to guess what an unfamiliar word means from context. then look it up to see if you're right.
(2) Picture it!
Make pictures in your mind as you are reading.
(3) Use your brain power!
Predict what you think might happen.

Make connections to your life and the people around you.
(5) Goal!
Set a reading goal.
Place a bookmark where you want to stop.
You might even want to keep going past it.
(6) Sound it out!
Read out loud or whisper and mouth the work.
Try reading in the character's voices.
(7) Sum it up!
Take about what you are reading to family member, teacher, or friend.
(8) Write it down
If you have trouble remembering, take brief notes on what you need.
It often helps you retain information.
(9) Read everything around you!
Notice how many words you see in day and how they help people find where to go, tell them how to use a product, or entice them to buy something.
