I also demonstrate a deep passion for helping others. After receiving support from an online tutoring platform, I felt compelled to give back to the community that shaped me. By dedicating significant effort as a tutor, I earned recognition as a top 5% tutor and even received the President’s Volunteer Service Award. In school, I participate in clubs focused on protecting the environment and supporting marginalized elementary students by teaching them English, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, I co-founded a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping stray animals. While our resources are limited, we strive to make a meaningful impact with the tools we have.
The college application process is undoubtedly a challenging journey, and many students place immense pressure on themselves to aim for prestigious schools. I completely understand this mindset, as I’ve been working toward this goal since elementary school. However, I’ve come to realize that college rankings aren’t everything. A rejection isn’t a reflection of your worth as a person but rather an indication that the college believes you may not be the right fit for their community. In the long run, you’ll find yourself at a school where you truly belong—a place that will support your growth and aspirations.
Rather than seeing high school accomplishments as merely steps for college applications, it’s important to recognize how much personal growth you gain throughout the journey. The college you attend is just one station in your life, but the experiences and skills you acquire along the way will shape who you become.
Lastly, you only go through this process once, so make it count. My advice is to start early. As a procrastinator, I didn’t begin my essays until late summer, and even when I had drafts, they required countless revisions—and sometimes rewrites. It’s a normal part of the process. Luck plays a big role too, so trust yourself, start early, and enjoy the journey. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions—I’d be happy to help.
