十九世紀後印象派畫家文森．梵谷（Vincent VanGogh 1853-1890）一生坎坷不遇，他的油畫、水彩、素描等作品共計一千七百餘件，然終其一生只賣出一幅「紅葡萄園」。在愛情方面，也是處處碰壁，曾追求過有夫之婦的尤爾秀兒、表姐凱琪、模特兒克麗斯汀、雛妓若琪兒的

梵谷終其一生沒有獲得任何女人的鍾愛而鬱鬱寡歡。他曾對農夫說：我在畫布上耕作，你在田地上耕犁。珍視生命而對人世間付出溫暖的關懷的梵谷最後被送入瘋人院！最後於1890年7月，梵谷舉槍自殺，享年僅三十九歲。

以畫家梵谷為名的這首歌曲「Vincent」是Don Mclean（唐麥克林)在欣賞梵谷的畫作「Starry Night」（星月夜）時，對於同為藝術家的梵谷之遭遇與孤寂所引發的創作靈感。同時這首歌也是唐麥克林傳世數十年的經典代表作一。

美國歌星唐˙麥克林當看見紐約現代美術館藏文生˙梵谷的名作「星月夜」後，情緒激動不已，隨手寫了這首「文生˙梵谷頌」，並以吉他自彈自唱，這是近年來非常受歡迎的流行歌曲，尤其１９９２年梵谷百年誕辰時，全球風行，大家在唱在聽，好像在向「文生」致敬，大家跟梵谷說：「生前沒了解您，對不起，我向您致敬」。
