１９８６年５月，由瑞典天團ABBA團員Benny Andersson+Björn Ulvaeus作曲，

英國作曲家提姆萊斯（Tim Rice）＋Björn Ulvaeus作詞，三人製作的音樂劇［Chess／西洋棋］在倫敦公演．

本劇以寓言方式反映１９８０年代冷戰時期的緊張局勢。

雖然評價褒貶不依，但賣座成功，直到１９８９年４月才落幕．

就跟萊斯先前作品──如《耶穌基督超級巨星／Jesus Christ Superstar》和《艾薇塔／Evita》一樣，［Chess］在首演前便發行一張非常成功的概念專輯以籌集資金。

［Chess］雙片概念大碟於１９８４年秋天推出（RCA唱片發行），樂評正面．

大碟登上英國專輯榜Top１０，其他地區反應則普通．

［Chess］專輯首支單曲為［I Know Him So Well／我這麼了解他］．

由３６歲半的英國實力歌手伊蓮佩姬（Elaine Paige）(as Florence)和３７歲的芭芭拉迪克森（Barbara Dickson）(as Svetlana)演唱．

三人將其製作成一首音樂劇／成人流行抒情曲，旋律悅耳．

編曲精緻，伊蓮的嗓音相對高亢，芭芭拉的嗓音相對醇厚.

在這首二重唱中，兩位女性——俄羅斯國際象棋冠軍的妻子Svetlana（兩人關係疏遠）和他的情人Florence——表達她們對他的複雜情感，以及對彼此關係破裂的痛苦，詮釋委婉感傷動人。
