１９７２年７月，２６歲的美國演藝紅星雪兒（Cher）推出第九張個人專輯［Bittersweet White Light／苦樂參半的白光］（MCA唱片發行）

這是雪兒最後一張由她的丈夫兼演出搭檔桑尼波諾（Sonny Bono）製作的個人專輯。

由於雪兒在《The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour》電視節目中演唱的獨唱情歌大獲成功，波諾決定讓她錄製一張專輯，收錄１９２０年代到１９４０年代經典歌曲的現代改編版本。

 

［Bittersweet White Light／苦樂參半的白光］是一張匯集管弦樂編曲、華麗動聽經典歌曲的大碟。

波諾的音樂生涯始於與「音牆」製作人Phil Spector的合作，這張專輯清晰地展現Spector的影響力。

 

儘管這張專輯深受雪兒歌迷的喜愛，但評論界褒貶不一，

大碟只登上美國專輯榜＃１４０，這是雪兒在１９７０年代期間商業上首次遭遇失敗。

 

首支單曲是［Am I Blue?／我憂鬱嗎?］

此曲創作於1929年，由Harry Akst作曲， Grant Clarke作詞，M. Witmark & Sons 出版。

Sonny Bono製作成一首傳統流行／抒情曲，

在優美的管絃樂聲中，雪兒以醇厚的嗓音緩緩詮釋，展現其演繹老歌的歌唱功力．
