１９４８年１２月３１日生在波士頓的唐娜桑瑪（Donna Summer）原名Donna Adrian Gaines．

１９６８ 年，１９歲半的唐娜蓋恩斯（Donna Gaines，尚未改名Summer，１９７４年才正式定名）在荷蘭發行第一首單曲──［Haare］原聲帶專輯中的插曲──［Wassermann／水瓶座］， 由唐娜與劇團合唱．

 

 

１９６９年，當時定居在德國的唐娜推出第二首單曲［If You Walkin Alone／如果你獨自行走］（Philips Records發行），

由唐娜蓋恩斯＋H. Hammerschmied創作，

被製作成一首北方靈魂樂（Northern Soul，初興起於英格蘭北部和中部地區的一種音樂和舞蹈運動）

節奏明快，節拍有力，年輕的唐娜以她寬厚嗓音表達出豐富的能量．

這首單曲並未上榜，歌迷對它知之甚少，卻讓人見識到年輕唐娜的歌唱實力．
