進入災區一次，就希望帶回一個生還者，這應該是每位在維冠大樓裡，與時間賽跑的搜救人員的心願，其中，台南市精英救援協會總隊長李志強表示，最心酸的是聽到呼救聲，卻因一牆之隔無法進入，等找到人後卻已回天乏術。
李志強在地震發生當日，連夜帶著8名救災兄弟挺進維冠金龍大樓救災，一群人來到現場後，趕緊從倒塌的大樓西側，順利接送出12位可自行脫困的民眾，而另也將8位輕重傷者送醫急救，當天下午也陸續搶救3男1女。
李志強投入救災工作約有25年的歷史，他述說起當初組織民間搜救隊，最主要的原因是因剛新婚沒多久的一次旅途中，在天氣狀況不良的南橫路段，自己的孩子正在發燒，所幸透過搜救小隊的幫助，才能順利就醫。
因為這個契機，讓李志強想在自己的家鄉台南，成立一支屬於民間團體的搜救隊，盡全力幫助各地救災。李志強表示，大家都講一句話，「我們是快樂的傻瓜，把生命置之於度外」，進入災區我們心裡都有底，家人都支持我們，也期待我們能平安回去。
李志強把自己的安全拋在後面，用專業的精神，盡力完成救人的工作。在現場還有許多受困民眾尚未搜救出，而搜救人員的辛苦，也是最讓民眾感恩的前線。
