美國總統當選人川普廿一日在佛羅里達州與洛克希德馬丁和波音公司高層會面後，廿二日透過推特表示洛馬的F-35太貴，要求波音公司提出新款F-18超級大黃蜂戰鬥機的估價。波音長期主張美國海軍應該多買F-18用於航空母艦上，而非F-35，川普似乎聽進去了。
軍事分析家認為川普的推文將讓洛馬降低F-35生產成本的壓力大增，整個計畫預計耗資四千億美元（約十二點九兆台幣），生產二千四百架戰機供美國空軍、陸戰隊與海軍使用，目前已生產兩百架。海軍傾向每艘航空母艦上配置兩個F-35中隊和兩個F-18中隊。F-18是很優秀的艦載攻擊機，配載武器比F-35多，目前造價約便宜三成。
