One of my favorite Nose Art designs of WWII was on a B-24 Liberator named "Lucky Strike". Earlier in the week I had been working on an illustration of MM when she visited the troop during the Korean war, but wasn't really happy with it. Then while looking for something else to do, I found an image of the B-24 "Lucky Strike" and the idea of combining the two came to mind. It's hard to understand my thought process, but it's my feeling that everything I do is connected in some way. Several weeks ago one of the great American heroes of our time, Lucien "Stag" Thomas passed away. Lucien was an amazing man and nothing more needs to said, his life and times are "Fait Accompli". Lucien was a warrior above all and once said that he would rather fly a combat mission than go out on a date with Marilyn Monroe. Lucien served with a lot squadrons in his life, but his time with the 13th Bomb Squadron during the Korean War defined him as a warrior, he was a Grim Reaper. So to tie up all the loose ends, this illustration is dedicated to Lucien "Stag" Thomas, may God rest his soul. Stag, this one's for you! Now you can fly your last combat mission and have a date Marilyn Monroe all at the same time!
