英國秘密情報局（Secret Intelligence Service, SIS），又稱為「軍情六處」（MI6），是英國對外的情報機構，於1909年成立，負責在海外進行間諜工作。
自1569年伊莉莎白一世時期英國國務大臣弗朗西斯·沃爾辛厄姆爵士創建英國保密局後，曾幾度變更其機構形式，直到1912年由曼斯菲爾德·卡明海軍准將組建成現在這樣的機構。20世紀30-40年代，它被公認為世界上效能最高的情報機構。在納粹德國侵略歐洲時，它在歐洲，南美洲以及亞洲大部地區從事諜報活動（MI-6的名稱就是在這一時期叫起的，因為當時它是英國陸軍情報局的6處）。當美國參加第二次世界大戰時，它曾幫助美國戰略情報局（後改組為中央情報局）培訓情報人員。

如今，雖然伊安本人還並沒有正式說明邦德到底是誰，但熟知007故事情節的讀者們其實早就看出，“邦德”就是伊安和他的同事們的影子，是他們在經過小說藝術加工前的“真實經歷”，“邦德”只是代表他們的一個符號。

Ian Lancaster Fleming ( was an English author, journalist and naval intelligence officer, best known for his James Bond series of spy novels. Fleming came from a wealthy family connected to the merchant bank Robert Fleming & Co., and his father was the Member of Parliament for Henley from 1910 until his death on the Western Front in 1917. Educated at Eton, Sandhurst, and the universities of Munich and Geneva, Fleming moved through several jobs before he started writing.
While working for Britain's Naval Intelligence Division during the Second World War, Fleming was involved in planning Operation Goldeneye and in the planning and oversight of two intelligence units, 30 Assault Unit and T-Force. His wartime service and his career as a journalist provided much of the background, detail and depth of the James Bond novels.
