knowledge that something exists, or understanding of a situation or subject at the present time based on information or experience.

Ex: Environmental awareness has increased dramatically over the past decade.

2.brand/n. /brænd/

a type of product made by a particular company.

Ex: When I go to a supermarket I usually buy own ( US store) brands (= the cheaper products with the shop's own name on them).

3.catch/v. /kætʃ/

to take hold of something, especially something that is moving through the air

Ex: Our dog ran past me and out of the house before I could catch it.

4.disregard/n. /ˌdɪs.rɪˈɡɑːd/

the fact of showing no care or respect for something.

Ex: What amazes me is her complete disregard for anyone else's opinion.

5.likewise/adv/ /ˈlaɪk.waɪz/

in the same way.

Ex: Just water these plants twice a week, and likewise the ones in the bedroom.

6.method/n. /ˈmeθ.əd/

a particular way of doing something.

Ex: Travelling by train is still one of the safest methods of transport.

the position of a house or other building.

Ex: Their house is in an idyllic rural setting.

a level of quality.

Ex: Not everyone judges success by the same standards - some people think happiness is more important than money.

9.strength/n. /streŋθ/

the ability to do things that need a lot of physical or mental effort.

Ex: She had the strength and stamina to take the lead and win the gold medal.

10.prime/adj. /praɪm/

Ex: This is a prime example of 1930s architecture.

following or belonging to the customs or ways of behaving that have continued in a group of people or society for a long time without changing.

Ex: The school uses a combination of modern and traditional methods for teaching reading.

to try to make someone do something for you by giving them money, presents, or something else that they want.

Ex: He bribed immigration officials and entered the country illegally.

13.essential/adj. /ɪˈsen.ʃəl/

necessary or needed.

Ex: Government support will be essential if the project is to succeed.

14.ethic/n. /ˈeθ.ɪk/

a system of accepted beliefs that control behaviour, especially such a system based on morals.

Ex: Publication of the article was a breach of ethics.

15.expertise/n. /ˌek.spɜːˈtiːz/

a high level of knowledge or skill.

Ex: We admired the expertise with which he prepared the meal.

16.found/v. /faʊnd/

to bring something into existence.

Ex: She left a large sum of money in her will to found a wildlife sanctuary.

17.innovation/n. /ˌɪn.əˈveɪ.ʃən/

(the use of) a new idea or method.

Ex: The latest innovations in computer technology.

18.mission/n. /ˈmɪʃ.ən/

an important job, especially a military one, that someone is sent somewhere to do.

Ex: Your mission is to isolate the enemy by destroying all the bridges across the river.

19.operation/n. /ˌɒpəˈreɪʃ(ə)n/

the fact of operating or being active.

Ex: There are several reactors of the type in operation (= working) at the moment.

20.potential/adj. /pəˈten.ʃəl/

possible when the necessary conditions exist.

Ex: A number of potential buyers have expressed interest in the company.

21.refuse/v. /rɪˈfjuːz/

to say that you will not do or accept something.

Ex: He asked me to give him another loan, but I refused.

the amount of business that a company does in a period of time.

Ex: The business has an annual turnover of £50,000.

not solid and firm and therefore not strong, safe, or likely to last.

Ex: It is a poor and politically unstable society.

to be happy to do something if it is needed.

Ex: If you're willing to fly at night, you can get a much cheaper ticket.

someone who commits a crime.
