堪薩斯皇家6日的比賽作客底特律老虎，皇家派出王牌投手Johnny Cueto先發，他繳出7局失2分的優質先發，無奈隊友打擊熄火，安打數比老虎多卻只打回一分，終場皇家1：2不敵老虎，Cueto悲情吞下本季第7敗。

Cueto轉隊來到皇家後，兩場出賽都是優質先發，前一場對藍鳥6局失3分無關勝敗，這場面對老虎表現更為出色，但隊友火力遭到壓制，苦吞敗投。

這場比賽上演一場投手戰，老虎的菜鳥先發投手Matt Boyd之前出賽成績並不理想，沒想到此戰表現神勇，7局只失1分，加上3名牛棚投手聯手2局無失分，讓Boyd收下大聯盟生涯的第1勝。

兩隊的得分關鍵都跟三壘安打有關。老虎在3局下半2出局後中外野手Anthony Gose用三壘安打打回第1分，以及4局下半Ian Kinsler三壘安打上壘後，Victor Martinez的滾地球換回超前分，老虎至此領先到終場。

皇家整場比賽只靠Kendrys Morales的三壘安打送回1分，值得一提的是，這是Morales自從2012年之後首支三壘安打，當時面對的球隊正好也是老虎隊。而皇家即使安打數比老虎多4支，但得點圈6支0讓攻勢屢屢受挫，輸球並不意外。

Boyd退場時接受全場球迷的歡呼，賽後接受訪問時他說：「那真的是太棒了！我永遠不會忘記那一幕，我愛死這裡了。」

而Cueto透過翻譯表示：「這就是比賽的一部分，我知道我只要做好我的工作，球隊會處理剩下的事情。」
