The Snow Man 雪人

One must have a mind of winter 一個人，要懷著一種冬天的心--

To regard the frost and the boughs 去看待松樹枝椏上的

Of the pine-trees crusted with snow; 層層霜雪。



And have been cold a long time 一個人，需要寒冷很久--

To behold the junipers shagged with ice, 才會見著柏樹陲掛的冰絨與

The spruces rough in the distant glitter 蓬亂的雲杉在遠處一月的陽光中閃爍。

Of the January sun; and not to think 一個人，卻不為--

Of any misery in the sound of the wind, 風吼的悲哀所動。

In the sound of a few leaves, 在凋零的樹葉嘆息中聽見



Which is the sound of the land 土地的悲歌--

Full of the same wind 滿是同樣的聲音--

That is blowing in the same bare place 在同樣荒涼的地方吹著。



For the listener, who listens in the snow, 一個人，在雪中聽著聽著--

And, nothing himself, beholds 永遠無我，不為虛無所動，

Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is. 始能洞見虛無的處所。
