
新年假期裏,難得老爺在家,我請老爺帶著全家大小,開車遠征華埠。
放假之前,偶然看到一新餐館的菜單,裏面註明有台灣的小菜,心中大喜,便一直期待,到這家餐廳打牙祭。
老爺開車,我在旁邊閒著沒事,拿起菜單仔細地研究,一邊還唸英文菜單給老爺聽。
老媽子一邊唸,一邊偷偷察言觀色。
菜單的特色是豬肝、豬血、豬腸、腰子、牛肚、牛腩和雞爪等等。每念一個,老爺的臉色就變一次,唸得越多,臉色越黑,最後,老爺忍不住說話了:[這是什麼餐廳?怎麼只賣動物的內臟器官?」
到了餐廳,原來是福建人開的閩式餐廳,手藝自是不如台式道地。老媽子一時忍不住,便點了五更腸旺,再點了炸肥腸。老爺額頭上出現了三條黑線,我視若無睹,因為實在很難得,可以吃到台灣小吃。不過,還是點了幾道沒有器官的菜餚。
上菜很快,五更腸旺馬上就來了。老二撈了一塊紅色的食物,吃完還要我再挾這個「紅色的豆腐」,我心知肚明,假裝不知道,也不更正。老二從小挑嘴,難得她喜歡吃豆腐,心想就讓她去吧。
炸肥腸一看就是腸子的樣子,乏人問津,只有老媽子埋頭苦幹。老大可不像老二那麼好騙,看到老二一直挾[豆腐] ,便開口問我,那是什麼呢?
告訴她說,那是豬血。老二插嘴說,那不是豆腐嗎?只有再度聲明:「那是豬血。」
老大緊追不捨的問:「豬血是什麼?」
沒好氣地說:「PIG’S BLOOD. 」
老大當場變成櫻桃大丸子,眼睛睜大,一直搖頭,無論我如何好說歹說,不吃就是不吃。
櫻桃二丸子還是不太相信,那不是紅色的豆腐,但是,也不肯再多吃了。
至於我家的櫻桃三丸子,更是不敢吃,還一直叫著好噁心哦。
老媽子只有變成櫻桃老丸子,帶著那兩盤內臟菜,回家自己繼續腦滿[腸] 肥。

My friend has 3 kids, and she's not fat at all, wonder how she did it! maybe lots of breast-feeding, taking care of all 3 kids, and chasing after them all the time?

Wait a min... I didnt say anything about the "large intestines". .. why were you talking about that in your reply?

I was talking about edema.. because you said that many times... thats why I wanted to bring this topic up... sorry if I offended you!

I know exactly how you feel... miss the Taiwanese snacks.. just a week ago, I found a small Taiwanese restaurant in our city, and I ordered pork intestine thin noodle... YEEEWWW! The intestine Smelled! Also the broth was NOT the kind of broth that I remember back in Taiwan! I was very disappointed!
Also it was quite dirty (I checked out the front and the kitchen), but it had a Big grade "A" sign...
The restaurant owner/chef was damn proud of her foods, and I wasnt dare to say anything bad about her food in front of her! lol they are just simply NOT good at all!

4. I believe that Europeans also eat animals' organs, and they are a lot more open minded than americans. For example, you can see "pork blood sausage" which is made is pork blood and rice, and the British call it "Pudding"! And the Europeans do Not afraid of present the chicken, duck, pigs heads in their markets!
5. I see that you often said that you had "Edema". Even though I've never seen you, but I know that many girls love to say that about themselves. However, often times, it's Not true! Basically, if it's the true Edema, you gotta be very concerned about your health! It can be bad body circulation, heart problems, kidney problems, or other reasons....
So basically I doubt that it's edema, and to tell the truth, it's more likely "fat" than "excessive water that's retend in your body"!
There's one way you can tell if you have edema... use your fingers, press on your legs, see if they bounce right back, or if there's indentation...

1. Dont tell most Americans what it is that they are eating, I'm sure that they'd love it and finish it!
2. I'm pretty sure that there are other "whites" that eat animals' organs! For example, southern people eat things like allegator, chicken's gizzerd (stomach), etc. many "ODD" foods they do treat them like normal daily food! (Yes they do all taste like "chicken"!) Mostly, they treat them like popcorns/fries, yes, fry up everyting, and anything that's fried, taste damn GOOD!
3. Also, dont forget the "Frenches"! They Eat animals' organs just like chinese and other Asians do! They treat those organs like delicacies, and I think the major differences between Asian and French handling/presenting their food is, the French makes their food/dishes look PRETTY, and often times, you dont know what you are eating, see thats the successfulness of the french food!
However , asian tend to present the WHOLE thing, asians dont really care for the "presentation" or eat with your eyes... if it's pig or chicken's feet, you'd know it's some dead animals' FEET!!

嫁給老美在吃的方面是個大問題﹐就拿我家的克拉克先生﹐他老兄是這個不吃﹐那個不敢吃﹔所以我打算從小訓練我家的「小混混」吃我們的食物﹐因為我曾經有個慘痛的教訓是燉了一大鍋豬腳﹐雖然是分了一大半給我的朋友﹐還是讓我吃了一星期的豬腳﹐吃的我三年來再也沒燉過豬腳…

專營動物器官移植!yummy!

有些動物內臟很好吃,比如牛肚〈蜂巢肚〉、豬腸,可惜膽固醇高了點!雞心也不難吃。
小時候鳥媽煮豬肝湯加些青菜,味道超鮮美的。長大後知道肝臟是解毒器官,就不太敢吃了。

我幾乎都不敢吃內臟或帶血的東西,雖然知道這些東西其實還滿營養的,
尤其是豬肝,聽說是很好的鹼性食品。
