⇒ a 1993 American film about the relationships between Chinese-American women

    and their Chinese mothers

The story of the swan is the ultimate symbol of the American Dream in the novel. The mothers want their daughters to have all the privileges they could not, but are disappointed that this in turn means their daughters will not truly understand them.

The American Dream changes between the generations. For the mothers, it is creating a future full of privilege and success. For the daughters, it is the freedom to take their opportunities and do with them as little or as much as they want.

 To Kill a Mocking Bird

The opening page of To Kill a Mocking Bird

Scout emphasizes the slow pace, Alabama heat, and old-fashioned values of the town, in which men wear shirt collars, ladies use talcum powder, and the streets are not paved, turning to “red slop” in the rain. This description situates Maycomb in the readers’ mind as a sleepy Southern town; Scout even calls it tired.”

In the first chapter of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout, the narrator, makes the above comment in a paragraph in which she describes Maycomb during the Great Depression.

She next uses her comment that "Maycomb County had recently been told that it had nothing to fear but fear itself" as a reference to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's first inaugural address in 1933, four years after the start of the Great Depression.

a 1953 American romantic comedy

When speaking of the American Dream in this novel one must perhaps look at Scout’s father. He is a man who is noble, honest, and humble. He fights for the rights of an African American accused of raping a white woman even though the small town despises his involvement. He fights for justice and equality in the world and one could well argue that this is his American Dream.

 Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

Fannie Mae's Role in Housing Finance

⇒  Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were created by Congress. They perform an important role in the nation’s housing finance system – to provide liquidity, stability and affordability to the mortgage market. They provide liquidity (ready access to funds on reasonable terms) to the thousands of banks, savings and loans, and mortgage companies that make loans to finance housing.

✐ Many have blamed the mortgage funding practices of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for creating the subprime mortgage (click!). Although they played a large role, they cannot be held 100% responsible. Instead, they are a prime example of the larger economic forces that really caused the banking credit crisis and bailout.

Though the usual format of epistolary is letters, however, sometimes writers use other forms of documents such as newspaper clippings and diary entries. Recently, you can see electronic documents like emails, blogs, radio and recordings have come into use in writings.
