相對於藍鳥的猶豫不決，紅雀隊在今天果斷和強力後援左投Brett Cecil，簽下一紙4年價值3050萬美元的合約，補強了自己最需要的牛棚戰力。

Cecil的交易包括了不可交易條款，紅雀隊可說是拿出最大的誠意來搶人，今年一整季都相當穩定的Cecil，不僅前東家藍鳥有意續約，眾多急需後援戰力的大聯盟球隊，都對他有意思。

紅雀這麼急著簽Cecil，另一個重要原因是在季末搶外卡時，傷了牛棚要角Zach Duke，導致他2017年整季報銷，紅雀不得不找尋能填補他戰力空缺的球員。

Cecil上賽季因撕裂傷而飽受傷病困擾，可他仍在球季中為藍鳥的牛棚作出重要貢獻，生涯讓對手左打對上他只能有.226 / .281 / .344的打擊成績，但對右打比較苦手，打擊率是偏高的.273，被攻擊指數也高達.800OPS。不過這兩季他在這方面有顯著的進步，15-16的賽季分別下修為.569 和.576的OPS。

大連官方對這筆交易有相當高的評價，普遍認為Cecil能成功頂上Duke的位置，複製今年球季的成績。
