20260420日，逾1.7萬名軍人展開美菲年度「肩並肩」聯合軍演；該次軍演的參與國為歷年最多，而且日本自衛隊首次正式參與。這次演習凸顯美國用實力來確保和平，圍堵中共是全球趨勢，而日本軍力崛起，中共軍事擴張面臨巨大壓制。.

Japanese troops make history by joining military drills in Philippines

A series of joint and multinational exercises involving Japanese forces in the Philippines kicked off Monday, with Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) troops taking part for the first time in the annual Salaknib drills held between the U.S. and the Philippines.

About 420 GSDF personnel have joined Salaknib under the umbrella of the U.S.-led Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center (JPMRC) 26. The contingent includes members of the 12th Brigade, as well as electronic warfare and special weapons medical units.

.Philippine officials said last month that around 1,000 Japanese personnel could take part in this year’s Balikatan, alongside forces from the U.S., the Philippines, Canada, Australia, France and New Zealand — setting a new milestone in regional security cooperation.

This year’s Balikatan drills are expected to run until May 8, after which the second phase of Salaknib exercises will begin, although it remains unclear how many Japanese personnel will participate in that phase.

Japanese forces are also expected to train alongside U.S. and Philippine Marines during the Kamandag exercises scheduled for June and July. Last year’s drills included the deployment of the U.S. NMESIS missile system, and Washington is planning to deploy additional advanced missile and unmanned systems to the Philippines as part of efforts to deter Chinese activities in the region.
