The group was incorporated in 1967 and diversified into construction activities in UAE during 1971 as well as in Saudi Arabia in 1981. The company has played a key role in the country’s development especially in terms of major civil projects. The most active division, Public Buildings & Airports Division (PBAD), is highly competitive and has undertaken various projects in building roads, bridges, airports, hospitals, universities, large housing projects, residential and commercial buildings, and high-rise towers among others. The division is well known for its speed in mobilising and executing projects. The yearly turnout of the division is around million and has ISO9001:2008 certification and maintains efficient quality programmes. SBG also let the way in Forbes’ recent Top Private Companies Making an Impact list which included a number of companies from the Middle East especially Saudi Arabia.

The company was originally formed by Bakr Binladin’s father, Mohammed Binladin, as a general contracting company in 1931. The company gradually expanded over the years across Saudi Arabia and added a number of operating divisions to its portfolio. To push the company to go global, Saudi Binladin Group was established to incorporate various divisions into a corporation. SBL’s current manpower strength is over 55,000 which includes engineers, architects, technical and administrative staff, skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers. The group is often ranked as one of the top construction companies in the region and is surely part of the A-listers in the region. Construction on Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower resumed in January 2025 and has been progressing rapidly, with crews adding roughly one new floor every 3–4 days since then. As of December 2025, the tower has reached about 80 floors in its push toward completion.

Once finished — currently targeted for around 2028 — Jeddah Tower is expected to become the world’s tallest building, surpassing Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which stands at 828 m.

Jeddah Tower is planned to exceed 1 000 m in height (around 1 008 m) when completed, taking the title of the world’s tallest skyscraper.

Engineering firm @thorntontomasetti has shared images of construction progress at Saudi Arabias Jeddah Tower and stated that the building had exceeded more than 80 storeys in height as of December 2025.

Its understood that the project is now targeting a 2028 completion date. If fully constructed, the megatall skyscraper will stand 1,000-metres high and become the new tallest building in the world, overtaking Dubai’s 828-metre Burj Khalifa.

Construction works originally began in 2013 but were paused twice for extended periods: once following Saudi Arabia’s anti-corruption purge in 2017 and again at the start of the pandemic. Prior to works restarting last year, the project had sat largely dormant since 2020 with only around 300-metres or 68-storeys of its superstructure built.

The development is being led by the Jeddah Economic Company. Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural design services and working as part of a project team that includes Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, RWDI, Dar, Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) and Turner International.

Jeddah Tower Set to Surpass Burj Khalifa Reaches 80 Floors

吉達塔（阿拉伯語：برج جدة，英語：Jeddah Tower），前稱一哩塔（阿拉伯語：برج الميل，英語：Mile-High Tower）、王國塔（阿拉伯語：برج المملكة，英語：Kingdom Tower），位於沙烏地阿拉伯城市吉達（Jeddah）一項摩天大樓計劃，計劃中的大樓高約1,600米（5,250呎），高度接近全球第一高峰──珠穆朗瑪峰（Mount Everest，8848米）的五分之一，但因為當地地質無法承受過重的建築物，且在沙漠中興建高樓也是難題，在後續的修改中被縮減到1,008米（3,307呎）。^[]
