反課綱微調學生與民眾7月31日凌晨開始占領教育部中庭，要求教育部長吳思華下台、撤回課綱微調，雙方溝通未果，加上台北高等行政法院駁回假處分，新版課綱仍於8月1日正式上路。

民進黨執政縣市長日前聯合聲明，鼓勵轄內學校沿用舊版現行課綱，因此台南市、高雄市等13個民進黨執政縣市決定採用舊課綱；台北市、新北市、高雄市等8縣市新舊課綱並行，只有國民黨執政的南投縣完全採用新版課綱。

沿用舊版現行課綱的13個綠營縣市包括宜蘭縣、基隆市、桃園市、新竹市、台中市、彰化縣、雲林縣、嘉義縣、嘉義市、台南市、高雄市、屏東縣、澎湖縣沿用舊課綱。

台北市、新北市、連江縣、金門縣、台東縣、新竹縣、苗栗縣採新舊課綱並行；完全採用新課綱的只有國民黨執政的南投縣，花蓮縣則還未確定。

教育部前廣場的反課綱行動邁入第2天，相較於7月31日凌晨的衝撞，1日上午教育部前的氣氛顯得和緩，警方也以安全為由，撤除教育部正門的拒馬，方便群眾進出。
