Quite a while ago Onda did announce the V975M tablet ased on a powerful Amlogic CPU, which appeared to be the most powerful Chinese tablet PC for quite some time. And it also was cheap, as we are used to from Onda. Now they seem to repeat the same thing again, this time using the newest Allwinner A80T SoC.
Allwinner was once a very important part of the Chinese tablet market, but has been pushed from the market by Rockchip last year. The reason simply was that Rockchip had the more powerful chipset to offer with their RK3188. But now it appears that Allwinner is back in game. Their newest chipset is called Allwinner A80T and is an octa core chipset. Not only that, it does also feature a big.LITTLE architecture, consisting of four A7 and four A15 cores. Plenty of graphics processing power is added to the package through a PowerVR G6230 GPU with an amazing 64 processing cores.
The Onda V989 which has been announced by the famous Chinese tablet market now, appears to be the first tablet PC to feature this all new SoC. Onda did even release a screenshot of an Antutu result already: Their V989 appears to be able to reach 48,102 points, which is simply insane. Of course this does not tell us anything about the real life performance, but if the real life performance will be as good as promised by this score, we can look forward to a real “allround machine” and a real pleasure-generating device for mobile gaming enthusiasts.
