術語“毒藥”通常用俗語來描述任何有害物質 - 特別是腐蝕性物質， 致癌物質 ， 誘變劑 ， 致畸劑和有害污染物 ，並誇大化學物質的危害。
The term "poison" is often used colloquially to describe any harmful substance—particularly corrosive substances, carcinogens, mutagens, teratogens and harmful pollutants, and to exaggerate the dangers of chemicals.
毒理學之父帕拉塞爾蘇斯 （ Paracelsus ，1493-1541）曾寫道：“一切都是毒藥，一切都有毒， 只有劑量使毒劑不是毒藥 ” [6] （見半數致死劑量 ）。
Paracelsus (1493–1541), the father of toxicology, once wrote: "Everything is poison, there is poison in everything. Only the dose makes a thing not a poison"[6] (see median lethal dose).
