hello friends
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Esther, and my name is Garrett.
Today we have a food lesson, and the name of our lesson is:
Let's Have a Snack! Ooh!
Where are the snacks? Well,
we're going to talk about different snacks. Yes!
Many people eat three main meals each day:
breakfast in the morning, lunch around noontime, and dinner.
But in between these meals,
they might eat other foods as well,
and we call these foods snacks. Yeah!
Snacks are smaller than a full meal,
but when you're hungry,
it can be nice to have a snack.
You might have a sweet snack or a savory snack, right?
Sweet snacks have sugar or honey
or other things that make them sweet,
while a savory snack has
salt in it and not as much of a sweet flavor. Well,
let's learn more about this with today's reading:
Sometimes you are hungry between meals. You want a snack.
Sometimes it's sweet,
sometimes it's salty, but it's always delicious.
Many people buy snacks at a store.
They enjoy chips. They come in many flavors.
People in Asia enjoy instant noodles.
People everywhere like French fries.
Small cakes, cookies, and candy are delicious sweet snacks.
Healthy snacks may be fresh or dried
fruit and nuts.
Wow, those sound like some great snacks!
I'm excited to talk about today's topic.
Me too! Now let's go to our "Find It" question.
Our question is:
What kind of snacks does Sarah eat most of the time?
What kind of snacks does Sarah eat most of the time?
Well, friends, the answer to that will be in
today's conversation.
Now let's go to Sonia, who will teach us our keywords.
Greg 說:洋芋片是我最愛的點心。
Chips are my favorite snack.
名詞 snack 就是點心或零食。
Esther 問他是什麼口味:
What flavor are they?
名詞 flavor 就是口味或味道。
Greg 覺得新鮮水果是很好的點心:
Fresh fruit is a good snack.
形容詞 fresh 就是新鮮的。
Sarah 覺得甜的水果乾
和鹹的堅果都是很好的點心:
Sweet dried fruit and salty nuts are both good snacks.
名詞 nut 就是堅果。
你曾經吃過泡麵當點心嗎?
Do you ever eat instant noodles for a snack?
名詞 noodle 就是麵條。
Hmm, these chips are good!
Chips are my favorite snack.
What flavor are they?
Pickle flavor.
Do you want some?
Uh, no thanks.
I am a little hungry.
I can eat a banana.
Fresh fruit is a good snack.
I know. It's healthy too.
I eat healthy snacks most of the time.
We start our lesson with Greg eating a snack.
Garrett, what snack is Greg having?
He's having chips!
Esther, I know you love those.
Chips are a snack that's usually made from potatoes,
and they are crispy.
Right! And I agree with Greg — mmm!
That's the sound you make when something tastes delicious.
Chips are good,
and Greg tells us that chips are his favorite snack. Right!
Chips come in so many different flavors,
it's impossible to count them.
And Sarah wants to know what kind Greg is eating right now.
When we talk about this word flavor,
we're talking about what kind —
or when we're talking about food,
we're talking about what’s the taste.
So sometimes chips come in a cheese flavor,
but Greg's eating a special kind of chips, right?
We hear he's eating pickle-flavored chips.
Now, I’m sure not everyone would love those,
but it sounds pretty good to me. Right!
A pickle is when you take a vegetable
and you add vinegar — something sour —
some salt, and sometimes
some spices.
So pickle-flavored chips are a little sour and salty.
Right. Pickles are usually made from cucumbers,
so these chips have that flavor — they’ll be a little sour.
And Greg wants to know if Sarah would like some.
If Sarah would like some —
how is this different from the question
"Do you want any?"
Sonia, can you help us?
Greg 說洋芋片是我最愛的點心。
他問 Sarah:「你要嚐一些嗎?」
Do you want some?
代名詞 some 是「一些」的意思,用在肯定句,也可以用在提問後預期或希望對方回答 yes 的疑問句中。
來看例句:
This ice cream is delicious. Here, try some.
這個冰淇淋很好吃,你試試看。
或是:Is that popcorn? Can I have some?
那是爆米花嗎?我可以吃一些嗎?
還有,any 是「任何一個」的意思,可以用於否定句或疑問句。
來看例句:
They got many gifts, but Tim didn’t get any.
他們收到好多禮物,但 Tim 什麼都沒收到。
或是:I need change. Do you have any?
我需要零錢,你有嗎?
Thank you, Sonia.
Sarah does not want any of these pickle-flavored chips,
so she says, "No thanks."
But she is hungry, so she takes out her snack.
She says, I can eat a banana.
And friends, I can eat a banana is today’s calendar phrase:

I can eat a banana.
I can eat a banana.
我倒是可以吃根香蕉。
Hee Hee!
Do you want chips?
No thanks, I can eat a banana.
Do you want noodles?
No thanks, I can eat a banana.
Do you want nuts?
No thanks, I can eat a banana.
Can I get you anything else?
Yeah, more bananas!
Yeah, I can eat a banana.
I can eat a banana.
我倒是可以吃根香蕉。

Well, a banana is a fruit,
and Greg tells us that fresh fruit is a good snack, right?
Fresh fruit is fruit that is new,
where it came off the plant in a short amount of time.
What is not a fresh fruit?
Well, that might be something like dried fruit
or fruit that is somehow cooked, right?
And Sarah tells us that
she knows that fresh fruit is a good snack.
She also tells us that it’s healthy.
If something is healthy,
then it means it is good for your body.
And there are things that are good for your mind,
like looking for our Find It answer:
What kind of snacks does Sarah eat most of the time?
She eats healthy snacks most of the time.
So not all of the time,
but she tries her best most of the time to eat snacks that are healthy.
Yeah, I think if you’re eating food that is unhealthy,
much of that might come from snacks.
Between meals, you might get hungry and reach for the easiest thing—
something like a bag of chips,
right? Or nice sweet cookies or candies.
These sugary desserts, often fried, are not very healthy.
But fresh fruit could be a great choice.
It’s healthy and it’s pretty easy.
You don’t need to prepare much.
That’s true.
Fresh fruit like bananas or apple slices are great snacks.
Well friends,
we will continue with this in just a minute.
First, let’s take a quick break.
Don’t go away!
Let’s Talk in English! Let’s Talk in English!
Garrett,
earlier you said that one of my favorite snacks is chips.
How about you?
What is one of your favorite snacks?
There are too many to list,
but I do like chips a lot too —
or anything with cheese in it, really.
I like string cheese a lot.
What’s your favorite flavor of chips?
Hmm… pizza-flavored.
Mmm, that sounds delicious!
Friends, let’s continue our lesson.
Do you like sweet snacks or salty snacks?
Both! Sweet dried fruit and salty nuts are both good snacks.
Do you ever eat instant noodles for a snack?
Sometimes, but they are really salty.
True!
And some snacks are really sweet.
I know! I love small cakes and candy.
I like those too!
Now Greg asks Sarah an important question.
He wants to know what kind of snacks she likes,
so he asks,
Do you like sweet snacks or salty snacks?
Right! Earlier in the show,
we used the words “sweet” and “savory.”
That’s similar.
Here, savory snacks are salty
or have a flavor that comes from salt.
Well, Sarah tells us she likes both kinds of snacks.
She says:
Sweet dried fruit and salty nuts are both good snacks.
Now, if the fruit has been dried,
it is not fresh anymore,
and you can have it sit for a lot longer without it going bad.
So you can put sweet things and salty things together in one snack, right?
And nuts are things like almonds or cashews.
They come from trees and are hard and crispy.
Yes, they are! Nuts are also a good, healthy snack.
But Greg wants to know about one other kind of snack.
Right — in today’s reading,
we heard that many people in Asia eat instant noodles for a snack.
So Greg wants to know if Sarah likes these as well.
Instant noodles are noodles that you can prepare very quickly —
not actually instantly,
but they are convenient.
Right, and let’s talk about noodles.
Noodles are foods usually made with flour and water,
and you can dry them and they stay for a long time.
Noodles are popular in a lot of Asian foods,
or in food like Italian food.
Right!
And instant noodles are delicious,
but Sarah tells us that they are very salty.
Yeah! You’ll want to drink a lot of water when you have instant noodles.
Just like chips, instant noodles come in a lot of flavors.
Right! And for that word “very,”
you can also use the word “really.”
They are really salty.
Sonia, can you help us?
Greg 問 Sarah:「你吃過泡麵當點心嗎?」
Sarah 說:「有時候,不過泡麵真的很鹹。」
But they are really salty.
副詞 really 可以有很多不同的用法。
第一個是「非常」的意思。
來看例句:The soup is really hot.
這個湯真的非常燙。
Really 也可以表示「真實的」意思。
例句:Are you really my old kindergarten teacher?
你真的是我以前的幼稚園老師嗎?
Really 還可以用來強調確定。
例句:Really? You keep the change?
真的嗎?不用找錢?
Thank you, Sonia.
Greg 告訴我們,有些點心真的很甜。
If it’s really sweet,
it means there is a lot of sugar or other things to make it sweet.
Yes! We love eating sweet things.
When you eat one, you want more!
Of course, they’re not very good for your health,
but having just a little bit is just fine.
And Sarah agrees. Some snacks really are sweet.
She tells us that she loves small cakes and candy.
Now, notice the word love here.
In English, when you really, really like something — including food —
you can use the word love.
Sarah loves small cakes and candy.
Now friends, snacks are different from dessert.
Dessert is what you have right after your meal.
It’s a sweet thing to finish that meal.
But snacks can also be sweet.
That’s true!
And Greg tells us that he also enjoys small cakes and candy.
Friends, today we’ve been talking about some different snacks.
What snacks do you like?
Do you like sweet snacks or savory snacks?
And how often and when do you have snacks?
Do you like to have a snack late in the morning,
later in the afternoon,
or even late at night?
Think about these questions as we go and review today’s keywords.
Here’s your first keyword for today:
Snack — I eat a snack in the afternoon.
Flavor — What flavor is this ice cream?
Noodle — He often eats noodles for lunch.
Fresh — I want some fresh fruit.
Nut — What kind of nuts do you like?
Oh friends, those are today’s keywords.
Just keep on practicing them!
And now it’s your turn!
The words for today are:
snack, flavor, noodles, fresh, and nuts.
Now it’s your turn to use them in a sentence:
First one: The candy comes in many...
All of them taste good.
Great answer!
The candy comes in many flavors.
Next: I love beef...
This is my favorite dish.
Correct!
I love beef noodles.
Next: Let’s have fruit for a...
Good job!
Let’s have fruit for a snack.
Next: These... are very yummy. They’re salty and crunchy.
You’re right!
These nuts are very yummy.
Last one: Are the vegetables... ?
You’re right!
Are the vegetables fresh?
How many words did you guess right?
Wonderful! I hope to see you again for Your Turn!
Mmm, these chips are good.
Chips are my favorite snack.
What flavor are they?
Pickle flavor.
Do you want some?
Uh, no thanks.
I am a little hungry.
I can eat a banana.
Fresh fruit is a good snack.
I know! It’s healthy too.
I eat healthy snacks most of the time.
One, two — let’s review snacks!
Yes! I love talking about snacks,
and I love eating snacks!
Most people enjoy snacks, so let’s get started.
Hazel, what is your favorite snack?
My favorite snack is chips!
Right — they come in many different flavors,
even pickle flavor!
I do like chips,
but my favorite snack? Bananas.
Right! Fresh fruit is a good choice.
Fruit is delicious and healthy.
That’s very true!
But my favorite snack is sweet dried fruit.
No — salty nuts!
Those are good too!
No — what about instant noodles?
They are a good snack!
No — but they’re too salty.
I know you love sweet snacks.
How about cake? Or maybe candy?
David, my favorite favorite snack is—
Sorry, that’s all the time we have.
See you next time, guys!
What about my favorite snack?!
Next time!
Hi, I’m Detective Carter.
I have a problem.
I have some items, and I need to find one that is different.
Can you help me find the odd one out?
There are four things.
We need to pick the one that is not the same.
Are you ready?
Our first set is: nut, meat, noodle, and treat.
These words are all food,
but one is a little different. Can you find it?
The answer is: treat.
Nuts, meat, and noodles are foods you can eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
A treat is a special food you eat for fun — like candy or chips.
So “treat” is the odd word.
Want to try another set?
Here are: treat, drink, café, and snack.
Oh — now I’m hungry for something to eat! Hurry!
Help me find the answer. I need to eat!
The answer is: café.
You can buy a snack, a treat, or a drink at a café.
So “snack,” “treat,” and “drink” are the same —
a café is a place.
It is not a food or drink.
So café is not the same.
We did it!
Now I can go to a café for a snack!
Good work — you helped me find the odd one out.
See you next time, friend!
Friends, when we are talking about snacks,
it’s important that we say this word correctly.
Sometimes people say the word “snack,”
but it sounds like an animal — a snake!
“Snake” and “snack” are very different words.
I would love a snack right now.
I would not like to be around a snake!
That’s right. Be sure you say it with a short "a" — snack. Okay?
Now, let’s talk about some healthy snacks.
Garrett, can you give us a few tips on eating healthy snacks?
Sure!
I would say an important thing is to prepare them ahead of time.
That way, when you get hungry, they’re already ready.
You might want to have nuts and dried fruit,
or even some dried meats.
That’s a good idea!
You can bring your own snacks,
so you won’t go out and buy some unhealthy snacks
when you feel a little hungry.
Exactly!
Make sure to eat things that are all different kinds of colors,
so you can get lots of different vitamins.
And of course,
make sure you join us again tomorrow
right here on Let’s Talk in English!
Goodbye!

Hello everyone, welcome to Let’s Talk in English!
My name is Garrett.
And my name is Esther.
Today, our topic is food—the things we eat to keep our bodies going.
All right, friends, we’re saying:
Let’s have a snack!
We’re talking about snacks in today’s lesson.
What is a snack? Well, it’s something that you eat in between meals.
We talked about different kinds of snacks.
We said that they can be sweet or savory—sweet or salty.
They have lots of different flavors. They have different tastes, right?
Some people even enjoy instant noodles as snacks, but be careful—
because these can be very salty.
Yeah, it is interesting. I always thought of those as more of a small meal, and not a snack.
Right, well, I guess it depends on what you think is a snack.
And some people like to eat fresh fruits, like apples and guava.
These are good snacks.
Other people like dried fruit with nuts—I think those are great snacks when you’re outside and moving around, like going on a hike.
That’s true.
Now let’s go to today’s blanket question.
Our question is:
What are James’ favorite snacks?
What are James’ favorite snacks?
What does he like the most when it’s snack time?
You know, it’s hard to pick. I think James likes to eat a lot of different ones.
But I want to know which ones he enjoys the most.
What are his favorites?
Old friends, we will learn a lot in today’s lesson.
Let’s get started with our keywords.
James 覺得常常看外國點心還挺好玩的,只要不要太奇怪就好了。
It’s fun to try foreign snacks if they aren’t too strange.
形容詞 foreign 就是「外國的」,而形容詞 strange 就是「奇怪的」。
Susie 說她那裡有一些可麗餅,也就是法國的薄煎餅。
They are thin pancakes from France.
名詞 pancake 就是「煎餅」。
James 說:「我真的很喜歡豬肉紙。」
I really like pork paper.
名詞 pork 就是「豬肉」。
他還說:「我喜歡鳳梨酥。」
I like pineapple cakes.
名詞 pineapple 就是「鳳梨」。
Hey James, do you like to try snacks from other countries?
I do! It’s fun to try foreign snacks if they aren’t too strange.
What do you have?
I have some chocolate cookies from Australia.
They’re called Tim Tams. Take one!
Thanks! These are good.
I also have some crepes here.
They’re thin pancakes from France.
But you know what they have in them? Chocolate!
Your favorite sweet treat!
Today, Susie and James are talking about snacks, and we start with Susie asking James a question.
Yeah! Susie wants to know more about James, so she asks him this:
Do you like to try snacks from other countries?
Right! When we talk about other countries, we’re talking about other places around the world—so we’re not talking about the United States.
Yes, and of course, people in different countries eat very different things.
Well, James does like to eat these snacks from other countries.
Right, he says:
It’s fun to try foreign snacks.
Now, if something is foreign here, it means that it’s not from your own country—it’s from a different place.
Yeah, it’s foreign to you is a phrase you might hear.
If something is foreign to you, it’s not familiar. You might find it a little strange.
Right! And he likes to try these foreign snacks if they are not too strange.
If something is strange, well, it makes you feel funny.
Maybe you think it tastes strange, or it doesn’t look too good.
Another word for strange is weird.
If something is strange, it doesn’t mean it’s bad—it’s just a bit different.
And that word weird is spelled W-E-I-R-D.
Well, it’s fun to try foreign snacks. And it’s fun to watch today’s Calendar Phrase:

It’s fun to try foreign snacks.
It’s fun to try foreign snacks.
嘗試外國點心挺有趣。
Look, here’s a cookie from Australia.
It’s fun to try foreign snacks.
Look, here’s a crepe from France.
It’s fun to try foreign snacks.
Look, here’s a pineapple cake from Asia.
It’s fun to try foreign snacks.
And here’s a snail from my garden.
Oh! That’s not a foreign snack… and it’s… uh… yucky!
It’s fun to try foreign snacks.
It’s fun to try foreign snacks.
嘗試外國點心挺有趣。

Well, James is asking Susie what she has because Susie has a foreign snack, right?
That’s why she’s asking him all these questions.
But what does she have?
Well, it’s some chocolate cookies from Australia, right?
Australia—that big country that is in the southern part of the world.
These cookies are called Tim Tams, and she wants him to try some, so she says, “Take one.”
Now Esther, have you ever tried a Tim Tam?
I have.
They are chocolate cookies that are very sweet.
How about you?
Yes, I’ve had them a few times.
I think they’re a little sweet for me, but they are very popular.
Right, well, James does try one, and he says, “These are good.”
So James enjoys Tim Tams.
Yes, well, Susie also has other things.
She says she has some crepes.
Now, crepe is a word from French.
Crepes are like very thin pancakes, right?
And they are delicious.
What are pancakes?
When you take flour, and milk, and sugar, and you mix it together, you can make a pancake—
a cake that you can make on a frying pan.
But yeah, when you hear that word cake, you might think of a birthday cake.
Pancakes are very different.
They’re a thin food usually eaten as breakfast.
Right.
And James does know about these crepes.
Now he wants to know what these crepes have in them,
because crepes often have something in them—
we call a filling.
Susie says they have chocolate,
and James knows that is Susie’s favorite sweet treat.
Here’s Sonia for more on that.
Susie 最喜歡巧克力。
James 說:「你最愛的甜點心!」
Your favorite sweet treat.
形容詞 sweet 是「甜的」意思。
來看例句:
This cookie is very sweet.
這個餅乾很甜。
或是:
Hot chocolate is a delicious sweet drink.
熱巧克力是又甜又好喝的飲料。
Sweet 也可以作為名詞使用,
複數形 sweets 指的是糖果或甜食。
來看例句:
Yay! Uncle Van brought sweets again!
耶!Van 叔叔又帶甜食來了!
或是:
Would you like some sweets?
你要吃些糖果嗎?
Thank you so much, Sonia.
Friends, it’s time now to take a quick break.
We’ll be right back!
Let’s Talk in English, Let’s Talk in English!
Every day, every day, just a way!
Welcome back!
Friends, have you ever had a crepe before?
They are so delicious when they are freshly made.
They’re eaten a lot like a pancake, with sweet sauces and sometimes fruit or other fillings.
Crepes are sweet, while similar French things called galettes are savory.
Wow! Can you tell us what kinds of fillings might be in a crepe?
You might have an orange sauce, some cheese, or other things, right?
I enjoy the most fresh strawberries.
Let’s continue our lesson.
What are your favorite snacks?
I really like pork paper.
Pork paper?
Yes, the pork is very thin—like paper. It’s delicious!
I must try that sometime.
What else?
I like pineapple cakes and nougat. Both are nice and sweet.
Does nougat come in different flavors?
Yes! Mango and coffee are my favorites.
Yum! All this talk about food is making me hungry. Let’s have some more snacks!
Susie wants to know more about James.
She asks him:
What are your favorite snacks?
All right. Susie has shared some different things with James, like Tim Tams and crepes.
But what does James like?
Well, the answer to that is…
The answer to today’s Find It question!
Our question is: What are James’ favorite snacks?
The answer is: pork paper, pineapple cakes, and nougat!
Wow! There are three different snacks. Let’s talk about them.
Now, when you take the meat of pigs and dry it into a thin kind of thing like paper,
you can call that pork paper.
Yeah, I’ve not heard this term too many times, but I think I know what we’re talking about.
It’s dried meat that you can carry around, and it’s very thin—pork paper, right?
In the West, people often dry beef and make large pieces.
We call that beef jerky.
So that’s a little different from pork paper.
All right, kind of like a thin pork jerky, I guess.
James shares this with Susie—shares this information—
and he says: “The pork is very thin, like paper.”
讓我們來聽聽 Sonia 怎麼說:
James 真的很喜歡豬肉紙。
他說那種豬肉片非常薄,薄得像紙一樣。
The pork is very thin, like paper.
句型:
Something is + 形容詞, like + 名詞。
這個句型是先用形容詞描述某樣東西,再附加 like something 做舉例,讓描述更具體和生動。
來看例句:
This backpack is really heavy, like a rock.
這個背包真的好重,像石頭一樣。
I like to keep busy, like a bee.
我喜歡保持忙碌,像蜜蜂一樣。
That house is very big and fancy, like a palace.
那棟房子很大,很奢華,像皇宮一樣。
Now Susie tells James that she wants to try pork paper sometime.
She wants to know about the other snacks he talked about.
Remember, James also likes pineapple cakes and nougat.
Let’s talk about those. Sure!
Let’s first talk about the word pineapple.
A pineapple is a kind of fruit.
It’s long on the bottom and has a spiky top.
You can find them in countries where it is warmer.
Exactly. It has a sweet and sour flavor, and in some places, it’s made into a cake.
Those are delicious!
What about nougat?
Sure. Nougats are like a kind of candy, and they have milk or other ingredients.
Sometimes they add nuts, and it’s something that you need to chew on.
Yes, nougat is very chewy.
Be careful—it can kind of get stuck in your teeth.
Right. They are very sticky.
Now, Susie wants to ask if nougats come in different flavors.
Does nougat come in different flavors?
So, different tastes. And the answer is yes!
You can put lots of different things into nougat.
And James tells us that mango and coffee are his favorite flavors.
That sounds good!
Susie says: Yum.
She also thinks that sounds tasty.
Right—and all this talk about food is also making me hungry!
I want to go ask James if he has some pork paper, pineapple cakes, or nougat.
If he has any, maybe he can share them with us.
That would be great!
Yeah, sometimes when we talk about food, it just makes you more hungry.
I know! And James has these special snacks from many different places.
Sounds great!
Well friends, it was fun learning about this with you.
Now it’s time to review our keywords together.
Here’s our first keyword:
foreign – What foreign food do you like?
strange – Ted has strange ideas sometimes.
pancake – Amy likes to eat pancakes.
pork – Do you want beef or pork?
pineapple – Can we eat some fresh pineapple?
Friends, those are today’s keywords. Keep practicing.
You’re doing great!
And now it’s your turn.
Today’s words are:
foreign, strange, pancake, pork, and pineapple.
Now it’s your turn to use them in a sentence.
First one:
Your favorite fruit.
Correct: Is pineapple your favorite fruit?
Next:
This tastes good with some sauce. This is a kind of meat.
Good job: This pork tastes good with some sauce.
Next:
Can you speak a... language?
You’re right: Can you speak a foreign language?
Next:
What did you put on your... This makes a great breakfast.
Correct: What did you put on your pancakes?
Last one:
This soup tastes... It doesn’t taste right.
You got it: This soup tastes strange.
Thanks for coming!
I hope you had a fun time here at Your Turn.
Hey James, do you like to try snacks from other countries?
I do! It’s fun to try foreign snacks, if they aren’t too strange.
What do you have?
I have some chocolate cookies from Australia.
They’re called Tim Tams. Take one!
Thanks! These are good.
I also have some crepes here. They’re thin pancakes from France.
But you know what they have in them? Chocolate!
Your favorite sweet treat!
What are your favorite snacks?
I really like pork paper.
Pork paper?
Yes, the pork is very thin, like paper. It’s delicious.
I must try that sometime.
What else?
I like pineapple cakes and nougat.
Both are nice and sweet.
Does nougat come in different flavors?
Yes! Mango and coffee are my favorites.
Yum! All this talk about food is making me hungry. Let’s have some more snacks.
One, two, let’s review!
We’re still talking about snacks.
I love snacks!
Me too! And my favorite snack is Hazel.
Today we’re talking about foreign snacks.
Do you like foreign snacks?
Sometimes, if they aren’t too strange.
What about Tim Tams?
They’re not strange at all!
Oh, I love Tim Tams! They’re like a chocolate cookie. Mmm, delicious.
You know what I like? Crepes!
Crepes?
You mean those thin pancakes from France?
Yes! Filled with chocolate—what a sweet treat! Mmm, delicious.
What snacks do you like from Asia?
I really like pork paper.
Pork paper? That sounds strange—but it’s delicious!
You should try it.
Maybe I will!
So what foreign snacks do you like, Hazel?
Pineapple cakes and nougat.
Mmm, both are nice and sweet.
Enough talking—let’s start eating!
Yeah, bring out the Tim Tams. Chocolate is my favorite snack!
Now friends, let’s answer some questions.
Here’s our first one:
What foreign snacks does Susie give James?
We can find the answer in Conversation A:
She gives him Tim Tams and crepes.
Here’s our second question:
What foreign snacks do you like to eat?
Let’s go to our friends and hear their answers.
What foreign snacks do I like to eat?
One time, James brought me a bag of rice crackers that he bought in Chinatown.
I really like those kinds of salty, spicy flavors.
My favorite ones were the kind that have pieces of seaweed wrapped around them.
Wow! That’s my favorite foreign snack.
What foreign snacks do I like to eat?
If I am in America, my favorite foreign snacks might be from Europe or Asia—
so maybe mooncake or special gingerbread cookies from Germany.
Yes, I really like most snacks from Germany, to tell the truth.
Gingerbread is so good!
What foreign snacks do I like to eat?
I love to eat snacks in general,
but I really like those Japanese rice biscuits—rice crackers wrapped with seaweed.
Have you tried those before?
If you haven’t, you must try some. They’re super delicious!
What foreign snacks do I like to eat?
That’s a great question for me.
I like to eat chips from around the world.
Many countries have different flavors of chips that you can only buy there.
So when I travel, I try to buy the special chips I can only find in that country.
Grandpa, what foreign snacks do you like to eat?
Well, let’s see… I like French fries.
I guess they’re from France, right?
Well… I don’t know.
How about French toast? Mmm…
I guess French food’s really delicious.
But I don’t like snails. No way!
Huh! That sounds terrible.
The snails don’t like it either.
Thanks for those answers!
And be sure to answer this question yourself, friends!
We’ll see you again tomorrow right here on
Let’s Talk in English!
Goodbye!
