Here’s your text with the requested corrections in grammar and the conversion of Simplified Chinese to Traditional Chinese:
Hello everyone,
Welcome to Let’s Talk in English. My name is Garrett.
And my name is Esther. Today, our topic is "At Home."
That's right! What do you find at home?
Well, maybe some new furniture. That is the title of our lesson today.
Let’s talk about those words first.
If something is new, it means it is not old; you have not used it before.
But what is furniture?
Well, furniture is some of the bigger things you might find around your house, like chairs that you sit on, a sofa, a cabinet, and even the bed you sleep on. In your home, you will have lots of different pieces of furniture. Yes, we use the word piece to talk about different kinds of furniture.
Exactly.
Furniture is something that we use all the time, and sometimes it can be fun to get new furniture—furniture that's bigger or nicer.
Well, friends, let’s learn more about this topic in today’s reading.
Do you like new furniture?
You can get some for your house or apartment. A new bed and a new dresser for your bedroom are nice.
The bed can be big or small.
You may want a new sofa and big chairs for your living room.
A new bookcase is nice, too.
But furniture can be expensive. Can you afford it?
Thanks so much, Esther. Yes, those are some good questions to ask when you’re looking for new furniture.
We will explore these questions today in our conversation and try to hunt and seek for the answer to our “Find It” question:
What does James need for his bedroom?
What does James need for his bedroom?
Listen carefully to find the answer now.
Let’s go to Sonya for today’s keywords.
Julie對James的新公寓很好奇,所以問他有沒有照片可以看。
Do you have any pictures of your new apartment, James?
名詞 apartment 就是公寓。
James給他看了照片,並說明他的臥室還需要買新的床和五斗櫃。
I need a new bed and a new dresser for my bedroom.
名詞 bed 就是床,而名詞 dresser 就是放衣物的五斗櫃。
James還想買新的沙發和書櫃擺在客廳。
I’d also want a new sofa and bookcase for the living room.
名詞 sofa 就是沙發,而名詞 bookcase 就是書櫃。
Do you have any pictures of your new apartment, James?
Yes, I do. See, I’m moving next month.
How exciting! A new place is always fun.
It is, but I need new furniture.
What do you need?
I need a new bed and a new dresser for my bedroom.
No problem! You can get those in many places.
Today we start with Julie asking James a question. Julie asks,
Do you have any pictures of your new apartment, James?
Now, there are many different kinds of places you can live in. An apartment is one of those. It’s different from a house.
A house is much bigger, and it’s usually not connected to the places where other people live. An apartment, though, is a big building that lots of different people live in. Right? Apartments may have many floors, while houses usually only have one, two, or three floors.
And James, we find out, is going to move to a new apartment next month.
Yes, so he is getting ready. He is getting excited.
Julie says, "A new place is always fun."
It is fun moving to a new apartment or new home. James tells us, though, that he needs new furniture.
I remember this every time I need to move. I need to think of what sorts of furniture or other things I will need to get ready. Otherwise, it won’t be comfortable moving into that apartment.
Earlier, Gara explained what furniture is.
There are the big things in our home, like our bed, and our drawer or a cabinet.
But we can’t add an s to the word furniture.
Sonya, can you help us with this?
James下個月要搬新家,他說:“可是我需要新家具。”
But I need new furniture.
家具是不可數名詞,所以前面不可以加不定冠詞,復數的字尾也不能加 s。
可以用 some furniture 表示。
若要指出一件家具的時候,要用單位量詞 a piece of furniture 來說。
例句:
This furniture is very comfortable.
這件家具非常舒適。
She gave me some of her old furniture.
她給了我一些她的舊家具。
再一句:
He bought two new pieces of furniture last week.
他上週買了兩件新家具。
Thank you, Sonia. Well, Julie is a good friend, and she wants to know what James needs—what kind of furniture does James need for his new apartment?
And what do we need, friends?
Well, we need to find the answer to our Find It question.
What does James need for his bedroom?
He needs a new bed and a new dresser.
Friends, did you hear the words bed and dresser? Well, those are two different kinds of furniture, right?
So we really know what a bed is—it’s that piece of furniture that you sleep on.
You put what’s called a mattress on that bed, and of course, your blankets to keep you warm.
But a dresser is a little bit harder.
A dresser is different from a closet, right?
A dresser is where you can put your clothes in, and there often are cabinets you can pull out and put your clothes inside.
Yeah, there might be drawers in it that you pull out.
A dresser is not built into the walls, but a cabinet or a closet might be built into the house.
You can’t take it with you if you move away.
And Julie tells James that it’s not a problem—no problem.
She says that you can get those in many places.
She’s talking about getting a bed and a dresser, right?
So when you move to a new place, you can plan on one big shopping day—go to a furniture store and look at all the choices they have.
Choose what styles you want and what colors.
Well, one tip for James, though: He needs to make sure his bed is big enough because James is very tall.
That’s a good point—measure things before you buy, friends!
It’s time for a quick break. We’ll be right back to talk about furniture just after this.
Let’s talk in English, let’s talk in English every day!
Every day, that’s the way!
Welcome back!
We’ve talked about some kinds of furniture people have in their bedrooms, like your bed and your dresser. You might have a desk as well.
Garrett, do you have a desk in your bedroom?
Hmm, I do not. There is not enough room in my bedroom for a desk, but I do have a separate room with a desk in it.
Right, and in the living room, we also have different kinds of furniture, like your sofa.
Let’s continue and learn more.
I also want a new sofa and bookcase for the living room.
That’s a lot of new furniture!
I know, but all of my furniture is really old.
Can you afford all those things?
Not all at once.
I can buy the bed and dresser first, then I can wait to buy the other things.
Good idea!
We continue, and James tells us what kind of furniture he wants for his living room.
Yeah, he needs more furniture than just those things for his bedroom.
He’s also going to need a new sofa and a bookcase.
Wow! Let’s talk about the word sofa.
People will sit on a sofa in the living room.
Sofas sometimes have pillows, and a lot of people like to watch TV or use their phones when they sit on the sofa.
Another word for sofa is couch.
These look like chairs; they are also things you sit on, but a sofa or a couch is longer than a normal chair, so multiple people can sit on it, more than one, right?
And what’s a bookcase? Well, it comes from two words—book and case.
A bookcase is a case or a place where you can put lots of books.
Sounds like James likes to read, so he needs a bookcase.
I would agree! Sometimes, though, you have a bookcase, but you put things that aren’t books on it.
We would still call those a bookcase.
Well, James sure does need a lot of furniture!
And James tells us he needs new furniture because he says, All of my furniture is really old.
That means the furniture he has now in his apartment is too old.
That’s why he wants to get new furniture.
Oh, I know what he means—All my furniture is really old, and hey, that’s today’s calendar phrase.
All of my furniture is really old.
All of my furniture is really old.
我所有的家具都很舊了。
Grandpa, your sofa is really old.
All of my furniture is really old.
Your bookcase is old.
All of my furniture is really old.
Your lamp is old.
All of my furniture is really old.
Just like me.
All of my furniture is really old.
All of my furniture is really old.
我所有的家具都很舊了。
Yes, all of James' furniture is very old, but Julie asks him a very important question. Right, this new furniture that he's going to buy, of course, will not be free. So Julie wants to know if he can afford all of those things, right?
Can he afford it?
This means, does he have enough money to pay for all these new pieces of furniture?
Can he afford it? Yeah.
So you might think they are saying, does he have the right amount of money in his bank account to pay for these?
But often what we mean is, does he have the right budget?
You don't want to spend all of your money just on something like furniture. You have other things you need to pay for.
Well, it sounds like James has a plan.
He tells Julie that he’s not going to buy all these new pieces of furniture at one time. He says, "Not all at once."
Hmm, not all at once.
That’s a great phrase for us to learn more about with Sonya.
James說沒辦法全部一次買齊。
Not all at once 慣用語
"At once" 就是指同時的意思,"not all at once" 就是指慢慢來,不用全部同時發生的意思。
來看例句:
You can eat the cookies, but not all at once.
你可以吃餅乾,但不用同時全部吃完。
或是
We can invite your friends for dinner, but not all at once.
我們可以邀請你的朋友來吃晚餐,但不用全部同時來。
再一句:
Change the rules a few at a time, not all at once.
依次更改幾項規定,不用全部同時改。
Thanks, Sonya. So James has a plan. He’s not going to buy all the furniture at once.
He says he can buy the bed and the dresser first.
Right, he’s going to buy the furniture for his bedroom first.
I think that’s a good idea.
And then he says that he can wait to buy the other things, the couch or the sofa and bookcase he wanted for the living room.
Yeah, that’s a great idea. That way, he’s not spending all the money he has all at once and making his life difficult.
Now friends, if you were to buy furniture, would you buy expensive new things or look for some nice used things?
Think about that as we review our keywords.
Here is your first keyword: apartment
apartment
Where is your apartment?
bed
bed
He has a big bed in his bedroom.
dresser
dresser
He keeps his t-shirts in his dresser.
sofa
sofa
The book is on the sofa.

She has many books in her bookcase.
Friends, those are today’s key words. Keep practicing, and now it’s your turn.
The keywords for today are: apartment, bed, dresser, sofa, and bookcase. Now, it’s your turn to use them in a sentence.
First one:
Put this book in the...
You got it! Put this book in the bookcase.
Next:
The guests are sitting on the...
Correct! The guests are sitting on the sofa.
Next:
She is lying on her...
Great job! She is lying on her bed.
Next:

You got it! Put these clothes in your dresser.
Last one:
His ___ has two bedrooms.
Good answer! His apartment has two bedrooms.
Friends, I hope to see you again tomorrow for your turn!
Do you have any pictures of your new apartment, James?
Yes, I do. See, I’m moving next month.
How exciting! A new place is always fun.
It is, but I need new furniture.
What do you need?
I need a new bed and a new dresser for my bedroom.
No problem, you can get those in many places.
I also want a new sofa and bookcase for the living room.
That’s a lot of new furniture, I know.
But all of my furniture is really old.
Can you afford all those things?
Not all at once.
I can buy the bed and dresser first, then I can wait to buy the other things.
Good idea!
Look, Ginger, isn’t this a nice apartment?
Yeah, oh, it’s very nice.
Whose is it?
Mine.
I’m moving next month.
That’s nice. Wait, what? You’re moving?
Yes, and this is a great place, isn’t it?
Well, yes, but...
But I need new furniture. Shopping for furniture is fun.
What do you need?
I need a new bed and a new dresser.
Great, I can help you.
Thanks, Ginger, but I don’t need help.
I think you do. Remember to check the bed before you buy it.
Check the bed, jump on it before you buy it.
See how high you can jump.
Ginger, I don’t plan to jump on the bed.
Well, I do. That’s the best thing about a new bed! Jump! Jump! Jump! Jump!
Now friends, let’s review what we learned with some questions.
Here’s our first one:
What can James buy first?
We found the answer in conversation B.
He can buy the bed and the dresser first.
Here’s your second question:
What furniture do you have in your bedroom?
Friends, let’s go hear what some of our friends have to say.
What furniture do you have in your bedroom?
Well, ho ho, I have a chair. It’s nice and comfortable.
Aha! What else?
Oh, I have a little table, and it has a beautiful lamp on it.
Hee
What else?
Ah, oh, Hee.
I have a bed. That’s where I sleep at night.
What furniture do I have in my bedroom?
Well, I have my bed, of course. I sleep in my bed.
I have a closet and a dresser. I put clothes in my closet and in my dresser.
I also have a bed stand next to my bed. It’s a small table where I put some books that I can read before I go to sleep.
What furniture do I have in my bedroom?
Well, I sleep on my bed. Next to my bed, I have a dresser. On my dresser, I can put my things.
I also have a wardrobe where I store my clothes.
Of course, I also have a desk where I can use my computer.
What furniture do I have in my bedroom?
Well, I have my big queen size bed, of course.
And I have two side drawers.
Then I have a big chest for my clothes.
And then I have one bench right beside my bed.
And then I have a lamp.
Maybe you have too much furniture. What about you guys?
What furniture do I have in my bedroom?
Well, I have a bed, but I don’t have much furniture.
Oh, I have a dresser that’s for my clothes, and I have a little table.
Thanks for those answers!
Make sure to answer this question yourself.
Maybe you can think of furniture we haven’t talked about yet. And of course, don’t forget to join us again tomorrow right here on Let’s Talk in English.
Goodbye!

Hello friends,
Welcome to Let's Talk in English! My name is Esther.
And my name is Garrett.
Today we’re back with another at-home lesson, and the name of our lesson is "New Furniture."
New Furniture
Yes, we all have furniture in our house. It’s what makes our house, our home, comfortable and nice places to be.
But sometimes, your furniture gets old, and you want to replace it with new pieces. What is furniture?
Well, they are the big pieces of things you have in your home. In your bedroom, your furniture may be your bed and dresser.
Exactly! In other rooms of your house, you might have a sofa (that’s where you can sit) or a bookcase to store all your wonderful books.
But there are many other pieces or kinds of furniture. We’ll talk more about some of them today.
But it’s time for us to go to our "Find It" question.
Our question is: What do the bedrooms in Susie’s apartment have?
Find the answer in our lesson today.
And I have an extra challenge for you today, friends. You don’t have to do this, but grab a pencil and a piece of paper, and draw out a map of your house or apartment. Then, fill in the pieces of furniture that are in each room.
That’s a great idea! Use the words you learned yesterday and the words you learn today.
Let’s go to Sonya, who will teach us our keywords.
Susie invites everyone to her house:
她客廳剛添購了新的沙發和台燈。
"I just got a new sofa and some new lamps for the living room."
名詞 lamp 就是台燈或綠燈。
她家餐廳裡的桌子很大,大家可以在那邊玩桌遊。
"We’ll play games in the dining room. 名詞 dining room 就是餐廳。"
Sam 稱讚他的家很大,蘇西說:
"是啊,很大而且很舒服。"
"It is, and it’s very comfortable." 形容詞 comfortable 就是舒服的、舒適的。
她家有三間臥房和兩間浴室。
"It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms."
名詞 bathroom 就是浴室。
臥房裡還有大衣櫥哦。
"The bedrooms have big closets."
名詞 closet 就是衣櫥。
Dialogue:
Hi Sam, welcome to my apartment!
Thanks, Susie, and thank you for inviting me over for games.
Sure! I like to have people over.
Julie, Greg, and Sarah will be here soon.
You have a nice place.
Thanks!
I just got a new sofa and some new lamps for the living room.
They look nice.
Thanks.
We’ll play games in the dining room. I have a big table there.
Today, we have Susie, who has invited Sam over to her apartment. He is visiting and looking around to see what Susie has in her apartment.
Of course, each of our apartments looks a little different, right?
And Susie says, "Hi Sam, welcome to my apartment."
Sam is thankful. He says, "Thank you for inviting me over for games." So he’s come over to play games.
Right, and Susie tells us that she likes to have people over. If you like to have people over, it means you like to invite people to your home or apartment to visit.
Yeah, you might enjoy inviting people out to dinner or to the movies, but in those cases, we don’t use this phrase “having someone over”—that’s for your house.
Sonia, can you help us more with this phrase?
蘇西說:"我喜歡請人來我家玩。"
"I like to have people over."
*劇中 have someone over 就是邀請某人過來你家,可能是喝杯咖啡、吃下午茶、聚餐或是玩遊戲活動等等,是生活中常用的說法。
來看例句:
They are having us over for a barbecue on Saturday.
(他們邀我們周六去他們家烤肉)
或是:
Can I have Linda over to watch a movie?
(我可以邀 Linda 來家裡看部電影嗎?)
再一句:
We’ll have the neighbors over for dinner another time.
(我們改天會邀請鄰居來家裡用餐)
Thank you, Sonya.
Well, Sam’s not the only one that Susie has invited over to her place. Susie has also invited Julie, Greg, and Sarah, and they will be there soon.
That’s good! You need lots of people to play some games.
Well, Sam says that Susie has a nice place. He likes what he sees there.
And Susie tells him a little bit about why it’s looking nice.
It sounds like Susie just got some new furniture. She got a new sofa and she also got some new lighting—some new lamps to put in her living room.
Would lamps be in the category of furniture?
Not exactly. Furniture is usually for things that are bigger than that. But lamps are great to have. They are lights that you have in your house, right? And you can move them around, so they add a nice atmosphere to your rooms.
And Sam tells us that they look nice. The sofa and the lamps look nice.
Well, they are not going to stay in the living room. They are moving over to the dining room, and that is where they will play games.
The dining room is the room in your house where you often eat meals. There’s probably a big table there.
Right, and think of the word "dine" (D-I-N-E). When you dine, it means you eat.
In many homes, there are two tables in the dining room. There is a large table, while maybe there is a smaller table in the kitchen.
Hmm, that is true. And that word "dine" doesn’t mean just to eat like to pick up a snack and eat it while you’re walking, but to sit down and really enjoy your meal.
Not everyone has a dining room. Maybe you have a living room connected to your kitchen, and that’s where you put your table where you eat.
Well, in Susie’s dining room, they are going to play some games.
We are going to take a break. We’ll be right back just after this.
Let’s Talk in English—Ten minutes every day! That’s the way!
Let’s continue:
Friends, we’ve been talking about different kinds of rooms. We’ve heard the word living room. How about dining room? How is a dining room different from a living room?
Like we said earlier, a dining room is where you sit down to have a nice meal.
Sometimes, a dining room is actually connected to the living room. There is no wall in between them.
And there’s one even more complicated: the family room. This is actually different from the living room. It also is a place with a sofa, but it’s often for a fancier event. People sit down, drink tea, and discuss things.
Alright, so if you visit someone’s home and there’s lots of space, they may have bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, and also a family room.
Let’s get back to our conversation:
Your apartment looks pretty big!
It is, and it’s very comfortable.
It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
It’s nice to have a lot of space.
It is! The bedrooms have big closets.
That’s very nice!
My place is pretty small. There isn’t much room to store stuff.
I’m glad to have an extra room. My family can stay with me when they come to visit, and my dogs have their own bedroom!
Lucky dogs!
Sam is looking around Susie’s apartment, and he says that her apartment looks pretty big.
Yeah, I know. When we have people over to our apartment, they also like to tour around and see what it looks like.
It’s fun to see how different people arrange their homes.
Right, where they put their furniture, what they have on their walls, and what kind of pictures they like.
Susie tells us that her apartment is pretty big, but it’s not just pretty big; it’s also very comfortable.
Oh, that is nice! Well, she tells us about the rooms. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Often, when you’re looking for a house or an apartment, it’s described like this: You’ll say how many bedrooms and how many bathrooms, right?
And if her apartment is comfortable, it means that when she is there, she can feel at ease and relax. She won’t feel nervous there.
Well, let’s get back to that word bathroom. The bathroom is the place where you wash yourself.
And where there is a toilet, bathrooms are important. Sometimes, you might even hear a place that has a half bathroom. What does that mean? Is it just cut in half? Well, a half bathroom is one that has a toilet but nowhere to shower or take a bath. Right? Another word for a bathroom is restroom. So, if you’re outside and you want to look for where to go to the toilet, you might look for the word “bathroom” or “restroom.”
Well, Sam says it is nice to have a lot of space, and we think it’s nice to find the answer to our "find it" question. What do the bedrooms in Susie’s apartment have? They have big closets. A closet is another piece of furniture. It’s where you can put your clothes. Right? There is often room to hang things in a closet because closets are big and tall. Sometimes they’re built into the wall, or sometimes there are things you can move when you move away.
Right, Sam thinks that these big closets are very nice, and he thinks the space Susie has is nice because his place, or where he stays, is pretty small. Hmm, my place is pretty small.
Friends, that is today’s calendar phrase: “My place is pretty small.”
我的住處很小.
My house has a big living room. My place is pretty small.
My house has a big kitchen. My place is pretty small.
My house has a big dining room. My place is pretty small.
Why do you live in a small place? Because I’m pretty small, it’s perfect.
我的住處很小.
And because Sam’s place is pretty small, he doesn’t have much room to store stuff. Now, here, “room” means he doesn’t have much space, and the word “stuff” means things. That can be hard when you have a lot of things. If there are no cabinets or closets to put them in, your house or your place might start to look a little messy.
Well, Susie does have room to store her stuff. She says that she has an extra room. If something is extra, it means it’s more than you need. Well, then her family can stay with her when they visit, and her dogs have their own bedroom. They are lucky dogs.
They sure are lucky dogs, Sonia. Can you help us with this phrase, “lucky dog”?
Sam:
“說真是幸運的狗兒呢。”
"Lucky dogs" is an idiomatic expression. It means someone is really lucky.
Let’s look at some examples:
"Lucky me! I got the last ticket for the concert."
我真幸運,買到了音樂會的最後一張門票。
"No homework today, lucky you."
今天沒功課,你可真幸運啊。
"Lucky her, she won the contest."
她真幸運,贏了那場比賽。
Thank you, Sonia. Yes, Susie’s dogs are lucky dogs! Now, it’s time for us to go and review today’s keywords.
Here’s your first keyword for today: Lamp.
Lamp: "Please turn on the lamp."
Dining room: "Everyone is eating in the dining room."
Comfortable: "This is a comfortable chair."
Bathroom: "Wash your hands in the bathroom."
Closet: "I put your raincoat in the closet."
Friends, those are today’s keywords. Keep on using them, and now it’s your turn.
Today’s words are lamps, dining room, comfortable, bathroom, and closet. Now, it’s your turn to use them in a sentence.
First: “We’ll eat in the ______.”
You got it! We’ll eat in the dining room.
Next: “Her ______ is full of clothes.”
Correct! Her closet is full of clothes.
Next: “I found a ______ to relax.”
Great job! "I found a comfortable spot to relax."
Next: “The light from those ______ is bright.”
You’re right! The light from those lamps is bright.
Last one: “There are clean towels in the ______.”
That’s correct! There are clean towels in the bathroom.
And there will be more sentences for you tomorrow here at "Your Turn."
Hi, Sam!
Welcome to my apartment.
Thanks, Susie, and thank you for inviting me over for games.
Sure, I like to have people over. Julie, Greg, and Sarah will be here soon.
You have a nice place.
Thank you. I just got a new sofa and some new lamps for the living room.
They look nice.
Thanks.
We’ll play games in the dining room. I have a big table there.
Your apartment looks pretty big.
It is, and it’s very comfortable.
It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
It’s nice to have a lot of space.
It is. The bedrooms have big closets. That’s very nice.
My place is pretty small.
There isn’t much room to store stuff.
I’m glad to have an extra room.
My family can stay with me when they come to visit.
And my dogs have their own bedroom. Lucky dogs!
Hi, Ginger!
Why do you have all this stuff?
I’m moving.
You’re moving? Where to?
To your apartment?
Yes, it looks really nice.
So why not?
Because it’s my apartment.
No problem, it has two bedrooms.
But Ginger...
I’ll take the big bedroom.
But Ginger…
And you can have the small bedroom.
Wait, what? Why should you get the bigger bedroom?
Because I’m your guest!
You should always give your best to the guest.
But Ginger…
Come on, James! Let’s go home.
What? Yeah?
Hi, everyone! Welcome to Jack’s File! I’m Jack.
I’m just thinking about my house. This furniture is pretty old. Haha, it would be nice to have something new.
I think I’ll go to a furniture store. Maybe I will see something that I like.
Think about the furniture in your home. It’s the things you sit on, sleep on, or eat at.
Most people spend a lot of time in their living room. They gather there to talk, relax, or watch TV. You often find a sofa in a living room. It can be big or small, but it’s usually quite comfortable.
You also probably have some chairs and maybe a low table in your living room.
The table is often in front of the sofa and is called a coffee table.
That’s because people often put their drinks, like coffee, on it.
You may also have a bookcase and some lamps in your living room.
In other rooms of your house, you likely have a dining table and chairs, beds, and desks.
When your furniture gets old, it’s fun to get something new.
It can make your house or apartment look different. A new bed and a new dresser for your bedroom are nice.
New living room furniture is nice too. When you buy new furniture, it can feel like you have a brand new house.
I just came back from the furniture store. I saw a lot of nice furniture, but some of it was pretty expensive. But I did see a nice sofa.
I’ll take my wife to see it too. If she likes it, maybe we’ll get it. Getting new furniture is fun!
See you next time on Jack’s File! Goodbye!
Now, friends, today we’ve been talking about lamps.
Susie has lots of lamps in her living room, but we don’t say “open” or “close” to talk about the lamp.
We say "turn on" and "turn off" the lamp.
That’s right! For those lamps, you might have a switch that you turn on and off on the wall, or there might be something you pull or push on the lamp itself.
Either way, you’re turning them on and off.
And we turn on and off other machines as well.
Well, did you draw a map of your room or your home? We hope you did, and we hope to see you again tomorrow right here on "Let’s Talk in English." Goodbye!
