三皈、五戒主是是屬於自受用，而受菩薩戒後就有義務要護持三寶，做利益他人的行業回報佛恩。

Taking the three refuges , holding the five precepts are mainly on the salvation of oneself; whereas the taking of the Bodhisattva vow's, mandates one to fully uphold and support the three gems as well as doing acts of benefiting others as a way of repaying our gratitude towards Lord Buddha。
