亨利．提伯特（Henry Tibbett）是蘇格蘭警場的探長（Inspector）（後來升官成為總探長），他是一個中等身材，小心又謹慎的人，善於觀察別人，他自認不是聰明的人，但是常常靠自己的直覺（他稱這種直覺是“我的鼻子”）找出真相破案．

在這個系列中另一個重要角色是亨利的太太艾瑪（Emma Tibbett），艾瑪是一個非常吸引人又對人十分和善的女性，常常協助丈夫辦案，有趣的是只要夫妻兩人一同出遊總是會遇上命案，這個系列的最大特色就是場景常常會與滑雪或划船有關（這與作者的興趣有關），足跡則橫跨歐洲與美洲，目前這個系列一共有十九個長篇
