2026 Binance Futures Trading Journal Tutorial (Referral Code BNOFFICIAL)
After trading Binance Futures for a while, many people only know "recently things are off", but can't tell which trades make money and which lose. The real solution is not adding more indicators, but building a Trading Journal to turn every trade into statistical data.

1. Why Keep a Journal for Futures
Memory is biased: profitable trades are remembered clearly, losses only the last one. A journal isn't about writing "market was bad today", but breaking trades into statistical fields.
2. Minimum 15 Core Fields
- Date
- Trading Pair
- Direction
- Setup
- Entry Price
- Stop Price
- Position Size
- Leverage
- Entry Time
- Exit Time
- Exit Price
- Trading Fee
- Funding
- Realized PnL
- Trade Result
3. Separate Pair and Direction
BTC may be stable, SOL may keep losing; Long may be steady, Short may often enter too early. Mixing them only shows total PnL.
4. Planned Entry vs Actual Entry
Separating these two columns tracks how often you Chase. Planning 100 but executing at 102.5 means 2.5% worse execution, often an Execution Discipline issue.
5. Initial Stop vs Final Stop
Comparing initial and final stop shows if you're adjusting risk normally or moving stop further after floating losses.
6. Position Size and Notional
Don't just record Margin; record actual position size. Add Notional to compare exposure under different leverages.
7. Entry Time / Exit Time / Holding Duration
With entry and exit times you can calculate holding duration. A common pattern: winning trades held 40 minutes, losing trades held 4 hours, indicating cutting profits too fast and waiting for break-even on losses.
8. Fee and Funding
Fees accumulate in high-frequency trading; for perpetual futures, longer holding means Funding should be tracked separately—being right on direction doesn't guarantee low costs.
9. Realized PnL, Not Floating Profit
Record actual realized results, not "once highest profit".
10. R Multiple
1R = planned risk. Losing 25 USDT with 50 USDT risk = -0.5R; profiting 100 USDT = +2R. It allows comparing risk efficiency across different sizes and pairs.
11. MFE and MAE
MFE = maximum favorable excursion during trade; MAE = maximum adverse excursion.
For example, final profit only +0.5R but mid-trade reached +3R, the problem is Exit Management. If winning trades have small MAE but Stop is set large, study stop structure.
12. Don't Change Strategy After Few Trades
Small sample leads to Overfitting, where rules only fit past data.
13. Three-Layer Review
- Daily: Check violations, Chase, Oversize, stop moved
- Weekly: Win Rate, Average Win/Loss, Total Fee, Best/Worst Setup
- Monthly: Setup quality, Drawdown, whether trading costs too high
14. Win Rate Cannot Be Seen Alone
80% win rate but average win 10, average loss 100 still loses. Must look at Expectancy and Profit Factor.
15. Drawdown Shows Risk Experience
Two strategies both make 5000 USDT, one drawdown 500, another 4000, completely different risk experiences.
16. Screenshots and Setup Library
Save Entry/Exit screenshots per trade, mark Entry, Stop, Target, max profit zone, max adverse zone. Over time forms your own Setup Library.

19. Change One Variable at a Time
Don't modify Entry, Stop, Leverage, Setup, Timeframe, Position Size all at once; you won't know what worked.
20. Don't Overreact to Short-Term Results
3 consecutive losses: sample too small. 5 wins in a row: doesn't mean strategy validated. Need sample sizes like 20, 50, 100 trades.
