Many traders are fine in normal conditions, but once BTC, ETH or SOL moves fast, execution starts breaking down.

Examples: chase a pump, catch a falling knife, fear missing a breakout, doubt direction after pullback.

This article focuses on one topic: How to handle high-volatility conditions on Bybit.

1. What is high volatility?

Price movement speed increases sharply in a short time. BTC may normally move a few hundred dollars per hour, then suddenly pump, dump, or whipaw hard.

2. Real problem is speed

Not just direction — price runs too fast, so Entry, Stop Loss, Take Profit and position size may need adjustment.

3. Normal size may not fit

Same position shows PnL faster during violent moves. Consider smaller size.

4. Stop loss becomes harder

Too tight = noise hit. Too wide = bigger loss. Adjust stop distance + position size together.

5. Wider stop = resize position

If stop distance doubles, size should usually shrink to keep risk same.

6. Breakout

Price exceeds key range. Example: BTC breaks 70,000 after ranging below it.

7. Breakout ≠ chase

Could continue, pull back, or fake out.

8. False Breakout

Breaks level but fails to hold, returns to range.

9. Reduce fake-breakout chasing

Check continuation, snap-back, pullback hold, volume stability. Don't chase every breakout.

10. Pullback

Breakout then retrace before direction confirms.

11. Pullback ≠ automatic buy

Check support, structure, range return, risk level.

12. FOMO after pump

Fear of missing out → chase, oversize, leverage up, no stop.

13. FOMO on dump

"Must bounce" leads to unlimited bottom-fishing. "Cheap" alone is not a reason to buy.

14. Market Order caution

Market Order fills fast but may suffer slippage — final price differs from seen price.

15. Limit Order advantage

You control acceptable price. No forced chase.

16. Limit may miss

Trades execution chance for price control.

17. Futures + high volatility = leverage risk

Volatility × leverage hits position together. Reduce exposure, not raise leverage.

18. Liquidation price

Triggers on Mark Price, not last traded price. Don't treat as stop loss.

19. Long setup

Ask: pre-breakout or chasing? Stop location? Can handle pullback? Size inflated by FOMO? Risk or Reward valid?

20. Shorting

Not just "too extended". Need failed breakout, weak structure, stop level, sizing.

21. Waiting is valid

Big volatility doesn't mean must trade. If unclear, don't trade.

22. Don't flip repeatedly

Switching directions constantly usually means no fixed logic.

23. No Trade Condition

Preset skip conditions: volatility spike, major data, consecutive pumps, stop too far, bad R or R, emotional.

24. Scaling

Define max entries, size per entry, total cap, stop condition, cancel condition.

25. Cost rises too

Wider spread, more slippage, more round trips, emotional overtrades.

26. Rebate

Rebate lowers part of cost only.

27. Checklist

  • Normal or high vol?
  • Chasing?
  • Breakout, pullback or fakeout?
  • Stop loss location?
  • Max loss in USDT?
  • Reduce size?
  • High leverage?
  • Still take if not filled?
  • Plan or FOMO?

Risk notes

Don't chase pumps blindly; don't bottom-fish infinitely; market orders can slip; widen stop → resize; high leverage amplifies risk; liquidation ≠ stop loss; rebate does not guarantee profit.

Summary

High volatility tests whether you keep risk rules when price runs. Order: volatility → location → Stop Loss → size → leverage.
