Golden Poppy - California State Flower

The California Poppy is a small plant, with one flower per slender stem.

A mature plant may be as short as two inches, yet the hardy seeds for

which poppies are known can spread far and wide.

In 1890 the California State Floral Society cast their votes to designate an

official flower for California.

The three flowers to be voted open included the California Golden Poppy,

the Mariposa Lily and the Matilija Poppy.  The California Poppy won

the esteemed title of "Official California State Flower"  

It seems that Golden in color associated with California.
